Of the core young 7, I predict 4 will remain Rockets after 2-3 more seasons. These 4 will be: Sengun, Reed, Tari, and Amen. I can see Jabari, Jalen, and Cam moved in the near future for a star level player.
In 2 years? Reed will still be on rookie contract so we can keep him anyway. Amen and Cam will still be on rookie contract. So we could extend Green, Sengun and Jabari. We still have 6 of them in 2 years. What's more likely to happen is we drop FVV and Brooks because we have their replacements now - so why dump anyone from the core before them? People are exaggerating our inability to keep our guys. Celtics pay Brown, Tatum, Porzingis, Holiday, White and they didn't draft all these guys. I'm sure we will be able to keep 5. We have RFA rights on all of them so it's going to be cheap and easy to keep them. If they're all getting offered a lot, then they're worth a lot.
Sengun Amen Reed and Green stay. (Unless green starts the year terribly again then he's moved) bari stays as a role player off the bench or is moved. Cam gets moved this year.
my post wasn’t to suggest the need to move 3 from the young core due to $$ reasons. I just think those 3 (Jabari, Jalen, & Cam) are most likely to be traded off for an upgrade for a star player.
i agree, we're going to keep all of our core seven unless a trade comes along that we can't refuse. i believe brooks and fred will be gone by the trade deadline. One of the seven could be package with them in the trade.
I agree that Sengun, Tari, Amen and Reed are the most likely to be here long-term. I think Cam is so young and early into his rookie scale contract that he’s probably here for a while, but I think he gets dealt before those other 4. Unless both Jalen and Bari take big steps this year, they’ll be prime candidates for trade, especially because they are advanced in their rookie scale deals. I’d give Bari more runway than Jalen. Those are the two players with the most to prove this season.
Considering we have Tillman as an owner I wouldn't be surprised if more leave than you think. Cuz he won't pay the tax.
There's a lot of smoke around Sengun being traded, last yr and this yr. I see teams extending guards and forwards but not good centers; Cade Cunningham, Franz Wagner and Scottie Barnes. Between this yr and the last 2yrs, theres only been one center and he got 4yrs/ $48M. Hardenstien was an outlier, because its hard to get players to go to OKC I hear some saying Sengun is not being traded but where there's SMOKE, THERE'S FIRE.
Why would we do that if we have 3 stars and 4 prospects already? Doesn't make sense. Another thing that doesn't make sense is that players who haven't reached their potential and are shortly due for an extension are not valuable in star trades. Those teams want stars or picks or young guys on great contracts. They don't want to pay guys we didn't want to pay.
Not sure if this is meant to be sarcastic or trying to trigger Sengun fans but Stone went out of his way to say they are not trading Alperen Sengun out of the core 7. He didn't say it about the whole core. He said Sengun specifically. It was very direct compared to what a GM normally says. No it was not usual polite GM speak. Why would they trade the best player on the team when trying to win more games? We have enough assets to acquire anyone without including Sengun. Doesn't make any sense.
Oh I just meant in 2-3 years. I doubt we'll dump both this season. I think Brooks is most likely to be moved. Tari just needs to get healthy.
Amen and Cam are going to stay and become superstars. Jabari is severely underrated and isn't going anywhere. Watch him blossom over the next couple of years. Sengun is going to be a GREAT player. I hope it's here. Jalen is getting dealt before the deadline. Tari's health is a concern. I wouldn't he shocked to see him moved....for the right target. Reed will play off of what we have. Shooter Deluxe with a great feel for the game...He'll do more than open the floor, but won't be Mark Price. ( not close to the ball handler)
And you BELIEVE GM's? I have seen GM's say that before and a week later, that player was gone. Im not saying that's the case here but there has been rumors
I disagree about Jalen and Tari. Cam is getting better but he's not there yet and Reed still has questions, so why would you trade Jalen? Tari has only been hurt this yr and there appears to be no ill effects from the injury he incurred.
I generally agree but the reality is Green is the one most likely to get treaded as of now just because of the confluence of multiple factors like his contract year is coming up. It has little to do with the future outlook of someone like Jalen vs Cam. If Cam just finished his third year and there was a debate about whether they will max him or not, he'd be the one most likely to be traded. When the dust settles after this season then it'll be easier to make predictions. I'm betting on Green being good enough the Rockets will feel comfortable giving him the max by the end of the season but I can see why even a non hater would think our of the core 7 Green is just the most likely to be traded as of now and it has more to do with him about to be a RFA and there still is question marks of who he will be.
