@astros123 is an ok guy. He is an obvious troll who was needing attention, so we gave it to him. He clearly didnt get enough attention as a child.

Its those who take themselves very seriously and actually believe they are from a higher order than the rest. Its one thing to question authority. Its another when someone is told to "trust the authorities" or "tell me who to vote for" while sitting on their ivory town of self righteousness.

 

Calling people morons for what they belief isn't productive. One of the reasons I stopped posting on here the last few months was because I finally got tired of everyone just calling eachother names and little/no actual debate going on. So as my last "experiment," I tried to honestly debate with people without putting them down ala @rocketsjudoka, and that didn't go anywhere. Confronting people with facts is not productive.

I've seen a transformation in people - not just on here, but overall. People belief what they believe. One of the great wake up calls to me was how many of my dear friends - including doctors, PhD's, liberals, nurses, family, etc - all believe that the COVID vaccine was more dangerous than the disease and hadn't been tested. Share facts with them, and they move goal posts in the blink of an eye. Keep pointing out the flaws and bringing up facts, and they get angry.

I tell my mom that Narendra Modi is in the same mold of Trump, and she'll throw a fit and get so upset. He's a god to her and nothing will change her mind. Nothing will change the mind of people who strongly believe anything. Those who love Trump, will not change their mind. They will justify everything he does to justify their love.

Does that make them dipshit morons? No. And that's the problem with calling the people who disagree with dipshit morons. Because the people you love really aren't any different...and let's be honest, there's a lot of stuff each of us individually is a dipshit moron about. One can argue that anyone on a message board arguing politics with a stranger is a dipshit moron.

Actually, it does make them dipshit morons. If you cannot employ basic reasoning, if you ignore facts, if you believe in wholly unsubstantiated conspiracy theories, you are in fact a dipshit moron.

If you cannot support a candidate, while also acknowledging the candidates mistakes and flaws, you are a dipshit moron.

As you said, pointing out basic facts to Trumpers is a waste of time because they quit caring about them. Because they are dipshit morons.

The best we can do is to model rationality, discuss facts, be willing to be honest about whoever we might choose to support, for good and bad.
