It depends. If one side is truly "running away" with the win, there is no reason to have a debate and risk turning the tide.
JD is like Ted Cruz. Insanely intelligent, but power hungry so he pushes lies. He would do great in a debate.
actually, I think Trump is relishing the thought of Vance v. Harris. Biden not so much. But Biden wouldn't be able to be the one keeping it from happening--he is completely on the defensive now and can only respond to what the Trump campaign does.
Maybe. I'm talking about interest in the VP debates themselves. Typically, no one cares that much. But I think it's different this time. Biden is "half dead" to many people, so they want to see how Harris handles herself. Trump isn't going to be around forever, and he doesn't run the country either (people have forgotten his schedule and his somewhat addiction to social media and TV viewing). So, they want to see what this Vance guy is about. Plus, there might be a comfort level among some swing voters with a VP that "checks" an outlaw POTUS, and religious voters that don't like Trump but voted for him because of Pence, so they want to know about Vance's religiosity. Those voters want to hear if Vance is that person. So, I think... it could actually swing the election much more than typical past VP debates.
it's on https://thehill.com/homenews/campai...-debate-jd-vance-running-mate-trump-rnc-2024/ 2 hours ago Biden campaign: Harris prepared to debate Vance by Alex Gangitano 07/15/24 4:56 PM ET Vice President Harris is prepared to debate former President Trump’s vice president pick, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), the Biden campaign said Monday. Biden campaign spokesperson TJ Ducklo noted on a call with reporters that Harris has been on the campaign trail focusing on reproductive health, gun violence and the economy, arguing she is ready for a debate. “We expect that she will do the same if JD Vance is willing to debate her. But I can tell you right now that the vice president is fully prepared to take him on,” Ducklo said. The Biden campaign in May accepted CBS News’s invitation for Harris to debate the future Trump vice president choice. At the time, the network said a debate would be on either July 23 or Aug. 13. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who talked to reporters on behalf of the Biden campaign on Monday, argued that Harris “will take it to JD Vance.” “I’ve known her for nearly 15 years. While she’s been in every kind of fight on behalf of working families,” the senator said. “I’m looking forward to this debate,” Warren added. The Biden campaign earlier on Monday blasted Trump for choosing Vance as his running mate, saying that the senator will only enable the former president. “Donald Trump picked J.D. Vance as his running mate because Vance will do what Mike Pence wouldn’t on January 6: bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people,” Biden campaign Chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement.
Is it sad that I don't remember her debate with pence? Ofc Donny is going to stress the One Job he expects from the VP. It doesn't mean Vance will follow through unlike Pence. He just has to hold his breath while his dignity is being snuffed away.
The Harris Pence debate was notable for a fly landing on Pence’s head. In this election Vance won’t have any say in the electors except as a senator voting on a potential challenge to an elector as he won’t be VP on Jan. 6, 2025.
It’s looking less likely that Biden will step aside. At this point it might be necessary for Biden Harris to run as a co president with the full understanding that Harris will finish the term. Given that there is polling out there shows Harris doing as well as Biden versus Trump.
“JD Vance will be loyal only to Trump, not to our country” is probably the least dumb/most true thing Kamala Harris has ever said.
Harris Struggles to Reassure Major Democratic Donors On a call, Vice President Kamala Harris told about 300 donors that there was little to worry about. Several listeners said they found the call to have little value. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/19/us/politics/kamala-harris-donors.html excerpt: Vice President Kamala Harris tried to buck up the Democratic Party’s biggest donors on Friday, telling about 300 of them that there was little to worry about in President Biden’s campaign. Ms. Harris spoke to the group at a time of extraordinary turmoil among Democrats, with many hoping that she will replace Mr. Biden as the party’s nominee. But several listeners said they found the meeting overall to be of little value and even, at times, condescending, believing that the message ignored donors’ legitimate concerns about the Biden-led ticket. more at the link
