Do you think AJ Griffin is good at basketball?

  1. No. There is a reason the god awful Hawks didn't want him.

He's definitely one of the 600 best basketball players in the world. That's amazing! Are any of you one of the best 600 at what you do? How amazing! (I doubt he's one of the best 450.) Also, yeah of course he's awful. He's a kid. Almost all 20 year olds suck. And yes, of course, this was an excellent no downside bet.

What's weird to me is how wide his feet are when he shoots. I've never seen that from a good shooter—maybe any shooter. For that reason alone I'm glad he's on the team. Weird shots are fun.

I'll save my judgement until after I see him play a year. I doubt they signed him if they didn't see potential in him. I'm hoping to see him progress, and as long as he gets better throughout the year I'll be happy.

I'll pass judgement if Udoka and Co. spend a year with him.

Showing he’s making 3.89M this year. So likely he remains on the roster for future trade filler value. Or the organization thinks they can fix him. Below are his career stats. He was actually off to a very solid first year. Fell off a cliff last year. Looks out of sync so far in SL.

Signing the Aussie does not bode well for signing Orlando Robinson.

They gambled a 2nd and it didn't pay off. No need to hang on to a reclamation project when we're more in need of roster spots to keep guys that have earned it through hard work and production.

Reportedly, Griffin is a pretty good shooter, though he hasn't shown it in summer league games. Plus, the Rockets also signed Jack McVeigh, another forward with a jump shot.

I guess they're looking for someone at the forward spot to give the bench an offensive boost when needed. Kind of what I think they had hoped Reggie Bullock would do last season.

So still solidly in the "No" category.

AJ, N'Faly, Jack McVeigh, and even RS should play together in the G- League. I'm glad the Australian is a 6'8" three point shooter.

Retired now, but once in the top 30 globally. Maybe Top 10, but I don’t want to brag.

(I’m wondering if AJ is better than the #44 pick,)

He looks pretty bad right now. Give him some G-league time to see if he can turn it around. He could develop into a 3&D guy one day although I would not invest too much time in him unless he is showing steady improvement.

Way too early for anyone to know how mature his game or mentality is. Bottom line, some team should show patience to see what happens.

Good in general or NBA good? I sure there isn't a single person on clutchfans that is as good at him at basketball.

I don't think they will pick up his option, unless he miraculously improves.

He will likely stick around as trade salary filler until the deadline

Saw him do some good stuff in the three Vegas games so far, mainly on defense. Looks like he's got long arms. I think the Udoker might could mold him into a serviceable corner 3&D. (Some of our guys, I swear, might need a shock collar to train them not to try to create so much off the dribble.) He hit three corner 3s one game off Shep kick-outs-- that's all he really needs to practice (he was 3/10 3PM that game, but 2/3 in the Detroit game, so there's that) if he wants to work for the Rockets. He's 20 (8/25/2003 birthday). Potential Bullock upgrade.

He is getting more comfortable each game. We know from his college career and rookie year the kid has talent. There is no reason to be impatient. Who is he holding back? Sorry Nate Williams, Samuels, Hinton look exactly the same if not worse than prior summer leagues. AJ played really well his rookie season getting 20 mins a game. It is a very small gamble to give him a season to get back to playing NBA basketball. He should spend most his time this year in RGV getting reps. 13 players are allowed on the bench. Here is what it should look like for the Rockets to start the year.
    FVV
    Jalen
    Brooks
    Jabari
    Sengun
    Amen
    Cam
    Sheppard
    Tari
    Adams
    Landale
    Holiday
    Green

    AJ
    McVeigh

We have to jettison some players. Tate has to go. Brooks should be gone as well (but I don’t think the Rockets will do that to start the season). Pre-season will determine if the new Aussie is going to require a spot. None of the leftovers from last year will get a contract. Williams, Samuels, Hinton, Boban are all gone. There is simply no place for them. With the signing of Holiday, I could see Sheppard starting in RGV as well, although I hope he shines in pre-season and takes Holiday’s minutes from the start.

Yeah whatever - now that Summer League is over

    - if you didn't know Griffin was a former high lottery pick whom the Rockets bothered to trade for -

-you wouldn't think twice about saying "on a good day, a fringe/replacement level guy who'd be lucky to get any NBA roster spot"
