Or what if Sengun doesn't develop his 3 & lets the opposing center score at will like last year? How long before Jock Landale takes his position & we go on another 10 game winning streak?
First off, I'm definitely not a Jalen "defender". However, prior to last season, I predicted he would have a difficult adjustment with the massive change in culture and should be given some extra slack. The old culture had no accountability and the games were almost never meaningful. Nobody respected the coach and it was just fun and games. This was all Jalen knew and I felt it would be particularly hard for him to play in a structured offense with discipline. THIS year, there are no surprises and no excuses. If Jalen is legit, he should tear up training camp and start the regular season off with a bang. If he struggles early, Udoka will have no choice but to show patience. But as a non-hater and non-lover of Jalen, I'm at the end of my rope and expect to see the best he can offer the first couple of months of the season. It better be really good.
I agree with this 10,000%. If Jalen & Alpi step into star roles this would create a clear hierarchy on the team that will take them to the next level. They both have shown flashes and the talent to be better. Consistency is the key. I’m hoping for the best for both
Irrationally, Jalen has my belief again. This is it though. Dude's gotta come out the gates on demon time.
They keep making these posts because at this point for all sides the goal is propaganda not having a rational fair discussion based on facts.
We played our best basketball in 3 years with Jalen running the show & Sengun hurt last year. Unplayable?
Yup he was utterly horrid last season. Rockets were 4.7 per hundred better when he was off the court. The win streak was cool but most of those wins were against the worst teams in the league and mostly due to jalen's fluke shooting. I would love to see jalen become a solid rotation player or a starting level player but he hasn't been close to that yet.
Actually it was .329% about the same as his 3 pt %. 27 games he played great. It's the other 55 games that were the problem.
The loudest Jaters are leftovers from the Mobley Mob. Its an ego thing here with fans who want to be acknowledged as being "first" on whatever player they attach their emotions to. My fandom operates in the sphere of winning games and preferably championships in the modern NBA. 2 foot baby hooks as "efficient" as they are will not get us there. Splitting atoms over what amounts to one more made 3/shot over a few games for Jalen is chasing the wind trying to catch up with that ego. Jalen needs to finish better near the rim this year and tighten up his shot diet. His confidence and consistency cycle has to mature. Once his numbers reach a tolerable range you will see the pivot to the ad hominem stuff and macho man worldviews because thats who they have been since day 1.
He's got to show it with consistency early in the season. We don't want to trap ourselves into a max contract for an inconsistent player. Keeping him out of fear of him eventually becoming a winning player would be a mistake.
Sometimes with some people its what you describe. Other times with other people, you just look at a guy, look up his numbers, and honestly don't see a good player. So when some folks come along and describe what you see as not so good as something great, well, that is often times when ego's get involved.
That's very reasonable and I would say most people who defend Jalen would say this is reasonable outlook for Green.
True. Stats are not the end all be all in evaluation. There is a good reason the offense goes to sht when players like Sengun, Jalen and even FVV are not on the court. Being able to attack a defense and create gravity for other players is a skill within a skill, but you wont find it on any box score. This year is going to be so much fun - hopefully all of our fans will be able to enjoy it without the need to measure dicks and gloat about perceived scouting abilities!
Yeah that 10 game winning streak was without Tari, Sengun & a few without FVV, so let's not talk use the competition excuse. We played our best basketball in 3 years with Jalen Green as the primary focus, not only has he proven to be a starter, he's played like the best player in the NBA through stretches
Yes...and this was against a low level of competition at a time when Green went on a fluke 8 game hot shooting streak where he was hitting 47% of his 3's....something VERY unlikely to ever be repeated and definitely not something he can sustain. So yeah, during the fluke hot shooting streak, he played like one of the best players in the NBA for 8 games....and the rest of his entire career he's played like one of the worst players in the NBA. One of those is more indicative of his actual quality than the other.
