Was he always with the Chron, or at the Post at some point way back when? We got both of them, and I religiously read them cover to cover every day starting when I was about 8 or so. His column was a highlight of the week. Basically Houston's version of Dave Barry

I don't think his death was directly related to the power outage. I haven't seen anything about a cause of death but they were staying somewhere else because his house didn't have power.
He was a Houston institution. Always looked forward to reading his column in the Post and then Chronicle.
Successfully adopted to a changing media landscape; always enjoyed his work. Hopefully he passed peacefully. R.I.P., Hoffy.
