Trump got all the best angles too. Fist pump. Blood splatter. Just missing a bald eagle flying above him.
I don't get how you can call one person doing an assassination attempt and the entire side, I'm sure some tiny number of people support it, but I'm guessing the overwhelming base on the left doesn't. The stolen election thing, clearly a significant amount of people on a "side" supported it.
Yeap. Clearly, we have strong political division, and we do have political violence. But let's stay factual and avoid oversimplifying. The motives remain unclear, so we can't even say it's due to political division at this time. If we assume it is, it's still just one person. Here are other facts: Biden and Democratic leaders have always said political violence should be universally condemned and is unacceptable. Trump has used political violence rhetoric, from spreading images of Biden hogtied to video of shooting journalists and politicians. The leaders of one party condemn political violence. The leader of another party pushes political violence messages. As for the followers of these two parties or groups, it would be a simple and inappropriate generalization to group many of them all as supporters of political violence. But we could look at some data: Roughly 10-15% of each party is okay with political violence. What's concerning is 40% (!!) said violence is a bit justified if the other party used violence first (a clear example of how hatred causes more hatred). At the end of the day, if we want less violence, we've got to elect leaders that denounce it and never see it as anything close to being acceptable. Polls and studies: Robert Pape's nationwide poll: 10% said "use of force is justified to prevent Donald Trump from becoming president." 7% said they "support force to restore Trump to the presidency." Washington Post/University of Maryland poll: 34% of Americans think violent action against the government is sometimes justified. 40% of Republicans, 41% of independents, and 23% of Democrats agreed. Mason and Kalmoe's surveys (2017-2020): Around 15% believed violence against people of the opposing party was at least a little bit justified. Bright Line Watch survey (2020): 40% thought violence would be at least a little bit justified if the other party used violence first. Kalmoe and Mason's survey (June 2021): 24% of Republicans and 19% of Democrats said violence against the other party was at least a little okay. Among Republicans who falsely believe Democrats cheated in the 2020 election, support for violence was 10 percentage points higher. Do we even know the ideology of the shooter yet? I would expect it to be a liberal extremist - but that isn’t a guarantee, as there are far right extremists that want chaos so they can take power, and there also are just mentally ill people. The shooting of Reagan wasn’t really politically motivated. Each side is desperately hoping their side isn’t involved and the other side is at fault so they can claim the other is destroying the country -
Blood rising with the fantasy of civil war etc. These folks I know have been constantly fed fear based propaganda that a day like this was coming where liberals, antifa, deep state ops, etc. would start falling out of trees mowing down white good Christians. The word gleeful is purposeful as well when they are far from the actual action in the safety of their living rooms. I’m sure the folks on the ground at the rally yesterday aren’t gleeful now though because the reality vs the fantasy are two different things. There’s also glee from the political aspect where those who are wanting to gain power understand this is propaganda gold for their political cause to gain autocratic power in the near future.
What percentage said use of force is justified to prevent Joe Biden from becoming president. It is always nice when people tell on themselves.
"The country is broken and it's all the fault of the opposition" - Posters on Clutchfans. I'm sure we will be healing those divisions real quick with those types of sentiments.
Clintons ban in 1994 rushed people to them like covid hoarders wanting toilet paper. Early 90's guns shows were at most 1-2 tables of black guns, by 2000 it was 90%. I don't even want to be around anymore.
you keep downplaying this but a freaking bullet just whizzed threw a former president, and current candidates ear. This is 1981 Reagan, not the FBI conning a few 18 year old Muslims into renting a truck.
Not sure if this is a reference to something or whatever, but I don't feel that's a fair response to my post. The OP states "We have one side who tried to illegally overthrow the government on Jan 6. And the other side who has tried to kill the former president and current presidential candidate." with the claim "This country is broken" Is it not fair to ask what percentage of people/voters/elected officials support those individual things? To me, it feels unfair to automatically equivalate them. Does that really make me a political hack?
Until people like you dedicate time to expressing sentiments of toning it down when it comes to rhetoric about migrants, Muslims, urban minorities, career minded black women in unconventional roles etc that result in violence towards these people. I really couldn't give a dick so it your fake concern about increased tensions and toning down the rhetoric.
I expressed no concerns for you to deem fake. I just pointed out Obama didn't have bullets ripping through his flesh.
