Can the Rockets trade AJG right away for a future 2nd pick and sign Luke Kennard with the NT- MLE without going over the LT? AJ is too rusty, and Houston needs more 3 point shooting. @ApacheWarrior
There isn’t any minutes. The reason why Griffin is a good addition is because he’s on a rookie contract with a team option and should understand he won’t have any guaranteed consistent rotation minutes. A guy like Kennard or Trent Jr is not signing up for that role
Agreed, Luke should be someone Stone is targeting while Memphis is stallng with negotiations but I wouldn't give up on AJ just yet. Having Luke and Reed would completely fix our three poimt shooting woes from last year.
After the first summer league game I see why Atlanta let him go. He just thinks he's a much better player than he actually is. He forced too many shots, dribbles into trouble and doesn't make the right read. Plenty of times he coulda have just passed it ahead only to turn it over instead. If he ever wisens up and plays a 3 and D role he would be a much better player but right now he thinks he's Kobe and it's hurting him,
I agree they won't sign up for limited minutes, nevertheless we need additional 3 point shooting. Cam will get better. Jalen needs to step up in a big way.
saleem, my understanding is they (Rockets) can trade AJ Griffin for another player right now; But if multiple players are involved, Houston would have to wait 60 days. Best case scenario is everyone improves their 3-point shooting, including Jalen Green and Sengun. Jalen Green can slide to PG (VanVleet/Reed) convert to spot up 2 (or SG) on plays. Sengun plays true center drawing opposing teams "Big" away from the paint. All-in-All Udoka would have so many options; which I've preached fast pace schemes, 3 hockey line like substitutions constantly running the court and outlasting opponents stamina wise. Some players are microwave offense while others need more run time to get going. Udoka will have to push the right buttons such as move Sengun to perimeter more or go small (Jabari at Center) when Sengun sits and allow Jalen Green to play as he did last March. Probably less chance for All Star selections with so many substitutions and decreased minutes distributed, but let that be incentive for each player to play well fast......hot hand gets more playing time. If Cam Whitmore has it going early in the game, then Cam gets more minutes of game play. Each game could have a new hero or the same.
Just for the shoot of it, my fav summer move would be a win-win for both squads: Ingram - Brooks/Jock assuming a reasonable BI extension, of course (4/150?) Pels get cap relief, a new face for Zion and some help at the 5. Rox get necessary O.
I mean you can tell someone's basketball IQ after one game. If he was playing smart and just missing shots that's one thing. It was just a statement on why he was relegated to bench in Atlanta. The things he was doing will infuriate any coach and get him on the bench quick.
Coming out of high school, he was considered to have high IQ. I'm wondering if this is more about him not being able to do things athletically as he once was after all his injuries combined with the fact he's playing with other people that probably aren't the best of players. AJ was never a great defensive guy, but he wasn't bone stupid, either. It's only been one game in a league with people running around like chickens with their heads cut off and very few plays set up for him, so I'm not sure what I'm going to gleen from this mess.
I think you are misreading my statements. I'm not saying he sucks and he's hopeless, I was just saying I see why we were able to get him for a second round pick and why his value was low, hopefully with good coaching he can turn it around,
They better be creating a motion offense right now. With 3 elite passers in Reed, Amen and Sengun and a bunch of finishers, it would be the ideal system. Plus Jabari, Jalen, Whitmore, and Tari aren't bad passers even if they get sticky at times.
@Reeko will legitimately faint if Rockets don't end up with 48 wins plus a playoff seed. It would be truly tragic.
I’m liable to get banned on here the way I’d go off if they don’t handle business and make the playoffs
We’re going to surprise a lot of people. One of Green or Whitmore will emerge as a reliable second scorer with Sengun. Several people to fight over that 3rd scorer spot. We’ll be a much improved offensive team. We’ll be a top 6-8 defense with our added experience and Steven Adams. One of the best benches in the NBA. First time in 5 years we will have good stability, culture and chemistry. Continuity brings more easy wins. It’s going to be fun breaking all these expectations next season. Some teams will ultimately slip up and we’ll be there to take their spots. California teams are especially vulnerable.
So, no improvement in wins is predicted (41.5). If we don't get to 44 or 45 along with a play-in birth, I will be disappointed.
