Let me say this - I feel sorrow for the person who lost their lives today. Just a terrible tragedy. This is not good for the country. Escalation of violence will rip this country apart even further. As much as I see Trump as a threat, this is not the way to end that threat.
If I am to feign sympathy for the attempt at life of Donald Trump and feel shamed about the hate rhetoric that would make someone angry enough to do this to Trump shouldn't you attempt to feign sympathy for the Palestinians for example and the hate rhetoric they endure from Trump and his supporters that leads to violent attacks on individuals who might look Palestinian? Reciprocity or something.
If not for the person I would say that democracy as a whole. We are fortunate that we can democratically elect leaders and not fear for assassination like in many countries. I think that’s the larger picture you can support even if not for trimp
That has little to do with the state of democracy but rather how expensive and elaborate presidential security is. Multiple city blocks of major US cities get closed down when the President is showing up. I fear the repercussions of an assassination attempt on Trump because I fear how the right will weaponize it.
Like some of yall, I too am worried about escalated violence across the nation stemming from this, but also genuinely surprised politicians aren't shot at WAY MORE. You'd think they'd at least 50x SCHOOLS.

Sure, but I'm not going to pretend an assassination attempt suggests the state of affairs of a country. If every president has had an attempt on them then it becomes a useless metric to judge the state of a nation.
