Interesting. I had a friend stuck in the Netherlands for a year and a half over this nonsense. She just got back. I hope things are better. I honestly just chose a bus over a plane to get to Dallas.
question for those who have traveled to spain...what would your itinerary be if you were flying in and out of madrid and had 9 nights there? no barcelona...looking south to andalusia or even some of the cities/towns within an hour or two of madrid. not looking to stay in one place more than 3 nights. i saw that fatty thread last week and got sad so i really just wanted an excuse to revive another.
Spain and Portugal are near the top of my list of places I really want to visit but for reasons I can't explain have never been to. This may help: https://www.esmadrid.com/en/day-trips-madrid
I'd hit up Granada, Sevilla, Cordoba. I would have added Ronda, but logistics can get a bit tricky. 9 nights is pretty good, since you probably want to be in Madrid for the night before you fly out. Madrid has an amazing art museum.
Don't miss out on Toledo. I love that place. Heading to the south of Spain might be difficult to do as day trips. Andalucía is great but having a base in the area. But if you stay a few nights in Sevilla and use that as your base, it will be great. Might be really hot though if it's during the summer. San Sebastian is absolutely lovely. Depending on what you want, either avoid or flock to places guiri (British tourists on full out Vegas-style d-bag behavior) travel. But San Sebastián is lovely. The area is Basque and has sunny beaches and also awesome mountainous terrain. The food in Spain is my favorite. I love the food in France, Italy, and some of the German food as well. But for me, Spain tops them all.
funny...those are the four cities in andalusia that we're most interested in. along with toledo, granada and cordoba are my other two must-sees. ive heard ronda is pretty incredible...might try working that in as a day trip from cordoba. would love to see seville, but might be trying to do too much at that point. yall are basically confirming the planned itinerary...1 night in madrid / 2 in toledo / 2 in granada / 3 in cordova / 1 in madrid
ive been wanting to go to spain for 25 years and toledo has always been at the top of my list. i was booked for barcelona in september 2017 and then harvey hit and my families houses all got 3'-5' feet of water so instead i spent my vacation demoing houses (i can still smell the poop). going in late sept-early oct so weather should be perfect.
All those places are worth visiting but you only need a day in most of them. Madrid is fab, spend more time there and in Seville, which is well worth a few days. Ronda, as others stated is fantastic. Don’t bother with Marbella, it sucks.

Came to post this article as well… https://www.nytimes.com/2024/07/10/world/europe/barcelona-tourism-squirt-guns.html
not going to barcelona, but i kind of hope something like this happens because i know how to curse up a storm in spanish...while they are trying to process why a white guy is yelling "chinga tu madre pinche puta" they will be on the receiving end of a beat-down. or maybe ill buy a watergun and fill it with pee! i love meeting spaniards in europe and speaking in mexican spanish. it really confuses them.
yeah, although we'll be close, not planning on going to the beach. we got plenty of those in 'murica. madrid looks incredible, but to do it right would probably require at least 4 days which would eat up most of the trip. definitely want to do a couple museums there though. granada, toldeo and cordoba are top 3. seville looks amazing too.
I caught so much grief in Argentina about my accent: "You sound sooo Mexican!" "No ****, I'm from Texas"
