The libertarians sure were right about the risk free benefits of utility deregulation!

Not sure if I just got old, but I'm pretty sure Houston is just hotter and more humid than when I was growing up.

Yeah...but it won't. You'd already hear calls for it if it were even a possibility. Cancun Raphael has been silent. Our own Governor Hot Wheels couldn't even be bothered to come home. Lt. Dan has been attacking Harris County instead of Centerpoint. Yet no one in state or federal leadership is questioning what in the entire f*** is happening here. In my neighborhood in Spring, the power goes out often. They blame it on vegetation but spend less than almost everyone per user to deal with it. There was a storm that blew through quickly today. Now, again, many are without power and street lights are out...AGAIN. Thankfully not at my house this time but the next minor storm could take us out in July...in Texas. I didn't realize that when I move literally 5 miles to the east that I'd be putting our family at risk by inadvertantly chaging out electriciy providers. I never had anything near the issues while in The Woodlands with Entergy. As ridiculous and annoying as the locat neighborhood Facebook page can be, there's a lot of people talking about moving because of this one issue. Even if a minorty of those follow through, between where the market is and their likely willingness to sell for lower than market value. So now our property values are threatened.

But none of that matters...because Centerpoint is almost certainly bankrolling everyone that can actually do something about this...so they won't. I'm not poor. I'm not struggling to get by. But a lot of people that are still being affected by this are. And, just like after ther big freeze, not a f***ing thing will change.

Literally 200 yards away, a section of the neighborhood has power. The rest is "pending review". 6 days. This is a cluster****.

CPE is taking a beating, understandably so. One thing they are doing better with Beryl than Ike is the restoration rate.

But why? Perhaps the response time is better, or more likely, there is less widespread and severe damage with Beryl compared to Ike.

Many people, businesses and traffic lights that HAD power have now LOST it in the past 15hrs or so (and it's been off for 15hrs or so).

It's an emerging story but I'm sure the media will have more on it soon.

Let's see what the idiot clownidiots that love CenterPpgames have to say about that. "Electricity is HARD!" Lulz.

I think the city should seize any and all Houston-area homes of Centerpoint’s executive team and board of directors and turn them into cooling centers until 100% of customers have their power back. Every one of them should personally feel the pain of their failure to prepare adequately.

I lived in Houston all but 7 years of my life, and assumed I’d be retiring here. I love so many things about the city. I’ve always encouraged people to consider Houston when looking to settle down. But the last 2 months has me seriously thinking of moving and I definitely won’t be recommending anyone else move here anymore.

Your point it taken on not missing what you don't have. However, memories change and fade. The temperature during and following Alicia (Aug 18, '83 - Aug 25) the temps at Hobby ranged between 78 and 92. This week it's ranged between 85 and 97... Certainly hotter now than then.

Where do you live? This sounds like my situation.

We (me, wifey, kitty) live off the Beltway at Briar Forest in an area of townhomes. 2/3rds of us got power back on Tuesday night. Starting two rows of houses over, they're still sweating like hookers at confession, along with the adjacent semi-affluent neighborhood.

And why are they ucked-fay? On a street in that neighborhood a tree is leaning toward the power line. They won't energize the line until the tree is removed, lest it fall and spark a fire. But the tree isn't close enough to the line to warrant immediate removal so it is down the list of priorities for Center Point. So the residents of Casablanca wait. And wait......and wait.

And the local AT&T service won't be fixed because the switches (junction boxes?) are in the de-energized section of these townhomes. So no connectivity for me! (But I'll take electricity over AT&T. Those poor bastards two rows over.)

My Houston family is still without power, but they’re in good spirits. I feel awful for all of you.

Has there been any communication to you about what the specific problem is to your isolated area? I fear people in these situations will be the last to get power restored.
