One thing that popped today with Reed was how entertaining his game is. The crowd was mesmerized by him in the 3rd. It's still early but I was downright giddy at times watching him. He does not play like a 20 y.o. Doesn't get flustered or accelerated. Just takes his time and let's the game come to him. What an impressive debut.
RS consistently managed to show some solid fundamentals. His defense and floor leadership both quite decent. I also saw consistently good entry angles on his shots as well as solid shot selection. The ingredients sure look like they are all there.
I though it was a total fluke when it happened. I remember SU fans were clowning him for never doing anything like that at SU. When the Rockets announced the trade for Artest, I knew they fleeced them.
I didn’t just see a guy get hot tonite. Lots of guys get hot and have a night. I don’t think that’s what we saw tonite.
Not at all. What Reed did tonight exactly mirrored what he did at UK and was obviously no fluke. The fact it only took him one half to adapt was amazing.
It’s an understanding of the game in the moment that’s instinctual….or more likely a product of lots and lots and lots of repetition. I love that crap
For this team, especially, he was my top prospect available. In fact, besides Wemby, Reed was my favorite prospect in these past 4 drafts. Based on some of the criticisms out there it's clear that people either didn't watch his film and said they did or just flat out didn't know what they were looking at. Now they are "surprised" he's doing things that he already showed he could do. Not sure why folks thought he was just some spot up shooter who would look totally out of place running pg.
You said it, because they didn't watch film. I watched his HS tape and he ran pure PG role his Jr/Sr years. Natural playmaker, with great instincts.
Anytime a Rockets team can beat the Lakers, I'm happy! Reed played very well. He didn't try to force anything and played within the flow. His shot is like Mark Price, pure butter. He stayed calm and kept control, great qualities for a PG and leader. Showed the doubters he can handle the ball, as he put Knecht on a island and ran scooted by him. It's only game 1, but Rockets looked strong. Shep is going to play and be a difference maker this year. (Note: realized I had a few typos--to many Old Fashioneds followed by beer seems to do that to my writing skills. )
His handles and creating ability surprised a lot of his doubters. I am extremely excited. But I keep telling myself: this is summer league. Let's wait till he faces NBA level defenses.
