this is a formula that doesn't work, like others have said a assist does not prove you are a ball hog.And Saying Garnett is in the top 10 of Ballhogs is just plain stupid. i do not know a player as unselfish as garnett. He is to unselfish.
Most of the posters couldn't see it because it's an Espn Insider article. And if that was his point, then his editor shouldn't have used a "ballhog" label on the title. That would be the only thing that people without the pass sees, and is essentially used as a bait and switch to entice people to check out the article. We all know that ballhog has a negative connotation, so if the article isn't about that, then it's the ESPN people that are misinforming the public.
tmacs Stats: 31.4 Possesions per game (23.3 shots,5.5 assists,2.3 turnovers) so he touched the ball roughly 31 times a game, and shot it 23 times after that. that leaves 8 touches W/O a FGA. 5.5 ast's in 8 passes is pretty damn good. of course the reason for shooting 23 out of 31 times is because who else on last years orlando team could score? howard gave 17, and lue gave 12. im sure thats where his asts went. tmac is a good passer, and a team player. he was forced to shoot for the betterment of the team. this year will be much different. defense first. unselfish play second. and when it all breaks down, TAKE OVER TMAC!
Too bad there's not a stat for how long you hold on to the ball per touch. If you could weigh that against the other stats somehow, you might get a better indication of who is hogging the ball.
Oh my. I don't even know where to begin in response. Who cares if he used a 'formula'. Hey, I have a formula ... (# of fouls) / (# of minutes played) = mean player quotient Now, if I put this formula into an article titled "Meanest Players in the NBA", would that be a responsible thing to do? Is my formula concrete evidence supporting my position? This kind of logic reminds me of an encounter at my local video store. I'm in the process of renting a video, and the clerk tells me that I have an unpaid balance of $4. I tell him that I'm aware of the unpaid balance, because I paid it off the previous week. Here's a brief summary of the rest of the conversation: clerk: "The computer says you owe $4." me : "I know, I just told you I paid it last week." clerk: "The computer says you owe $4." me: "I can bring in the receipt to prove it." clerk: "I can't verify that using the computer." me: "What does that mean?" clerk: "The computer says you owe $4." That is garbage logic. People questioning the validity of Messr. Brown's formula, on the other hand, are not exercising garbage logic. Ever consider changing your name to "MadDog2020"? ;-)
Oh My God ! ! ! Did I just read what I think I read. I'm sorry but that kind of juvenility doesn't belong here... That kind of humor belongs in the Hangout.
ballhog doesn't neccesarily mean selfish. anyways mcgrady certainly is a ballhog he averaged over 30 points and took a boat load of shots. of course that doesn't mean he's selfish either he just had no one to pass to. i guess it just matters on how you want to define the word.
How can you call Mobley a ball hog, he actually REDUCED his shot attempts in order to fit into an offense.
I was not arguing Terry Brown's logic, I was just saying some guys here really hate ESPN insiders for some reason and every time an (Insider) article came up, they just attack it without giving any reasons. They just wasted the space and time for those actually wants to read it. It is up to the eyes of beholders if these media articles are worth reading. I take those with a grain of salt, but some guys (here) really hated it when there are negative comments toward this team. They just seems like not willing to hear any bad about this team. My suggestion to these guys: Stay away with these threads. ESPN columnists get paid for writing articles. They may not be the most well-informed people in the world but they do give their articles some thought before putting their words down (mostly). Their works are certainly more respectable than 99% of the posts on any message boards. But for some reason, someone just loves to attack them when they think their team is not receiving proper 'love' from them. Media articles are supposed to be just another piece of information and sometimes just for fun, but too many people took it too seriously. And the results are all these hatreds generated from someone, anyone.
