Amazon deal is completely locked in like ESPN and NBC. If the NBA does create a package for TNT, it will be leftover scraps from those 3 and there shouldn't be much left over. IMO, nothing will happen and TNT is just trying to save face by dragging this out. They can publicly claim "we tried our best" instead of admitting they blew their chance weeks ago.
Well it is a big deal because if TNT didn't get the NBA deal then all the other networks would go after Chuck and he would've been the marquee FA if a network wouldn't be able to sign all the Inside guys together
I don't think him saying this now is a big deal at all because IMO there is a 50/50 chance he changes his mind.
hope sir chuck goes into coaching and become one of our assistants. he'll make green a superstar and we'll all laugh at jalen brown.
NBA Finalizes Combined 11-Year, $76 Billion Contract With ESPN, NBC, Amazon The NBA has finalized contracts with ABC/ESPN, NBC and Amazon that will collectively be worth $76 billion over 11 seasons, sources tell Andrew Marchand of The Athletic. The next step is for the league’s governors to approve the agreements with ESPN, NBC and Amazon, which is expected to be a formality. In the current agreement, the ESPN and TNT Sports pay a combined total of $2.6 billion on what is a nine-season agreement. Once those contracts are finalized, they will be sent to TNT Sports where they could possibly match. If TNT attempts to match, they are expected to target Amazon's package. Under the new agreements, the NBA will have nationally televised games nearly seen days per week. NBC will have games throughout the full NBA season on Tuesdays. Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, is expected to have exclusive telecasts on Mondays. During the entire regular season, Amazon Prime Video is anticipated to have its other games streamed predominantly on Friday nights and Saturdays. Amazon will also pick up Thursdays following the conclusion of the NFL season. During the NFL season, it will have its games on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with its Saturday night game being its special ABC window. ESPN will add Friday games after the NFL season. Proposed National TV Schedule Monday: Peacock Tuesday: NBC Wednesday: ESPN Thursday: Amazon Friday: ESPN/Amazon Saturday: ESPN/Amazon Sunday: NBC/ESPN
NBC really got shafted with this deal as far as exclusive play-offs and allocated days of the week goes, but glad they are back. Cool if TNT still matches the Amazon package and no way they are going to match NBC's. Crazy NBC were willing to pay this much without any finals exclusive, which is where we as fans will suffer the most. And how did Amazon manage to get the best nights and pay the least?!!
No Idea how they got their part, but i'm hoping TNT doesn't match the Amazon deal. Most people have Prime, and that will get us many, many games without the need for some purchased package junk. It's too bad that Peacock is no longer free with Xfinity.
wait ok just to be sure again, tnt on nba will still air for the 24-25 season. and then go off air after that right? why are people acting like they just watched chuck's final appearance on television?
I'm pretty sure Fox Sports bought the rights to the theme a few years ago and uses it for their College Basketball coverage. But I agree, would be really cool for all of us who watched NBA on NBC in the 90s for them to have the original theme back. Maybe they can work out a deal with Fox to be able to also have access to the theme.
https://www.si.com/nba/new-tv-deal-will-have-fans-scrambling-to-find-games-every-night The biggest takeaway is that you are going to have access to a lot of NBA games during the regular season, but it’s going to be a huge pain to remember where the games are each night. ESPN’s deals allows for games on ESPN and ABC. NBC’s deal allows for games on NBC and Peacock. You also have the NFL throwing a wrench in the NBA’s TV schedule because in the case of Sunday Night Football on NBC and Thursday Night Football on Amazon, the NBA will have to wait until the NFL season ends to air in those spots. So if you’re a big NBA fan who enjoys tuning into regular-season action on a nightly basis, here’s what the new schedule will look like starting with the 2025–26 season: Sunday: NBC, ESPN Mondays: Peacock Tuesdays: NBC Wednesday: ESPN Thursday: Amazon Friday: Amazon, ESPN Saturday: ABC, Amazon
Amazon paid a crazy amount for just the streaming rights, but they can easily afford it. Streaming is right up their alley and, for them, this opportunity represents a huge upside in the long term if they are successful. Amazon also has over 25x the market cap of Time-Warner, who still keeps preening as if they might match Amazon. They don't want to concede that after bluffing, they suffered a humiliating 1st round KO from Adam Silver. This fight has long been over with. They obviously cannot afford such an outrageous price for something so likely to be a financial disaster for them. They will release a statement at the end saying after a long and careful analysis, they decided to move on. The "analysis" was finished weeks ago and they completely lost control of the process after refusing the NBA's initial offer.
