"Free your mind, and the rest will follow. Be color-blind, don't be so shallow" Kind of crazy that this would be considered controversial in 2024. The song was pretty much universally praised in the 90s. Wonder if there's been any backlash against it recently. I remember the music video vividly when I was 13. It definitely open up my mind. Made me realize cleavage could be appreciated across all races. It helps that the song completely slaps.
I think it was just naive. The idea of character not color still holds, but sadly, they underestimated the right wing. They never imagined that celebrating and recognizing accomplishments would be a negative, somehow.
Nobody said simply being a race is an accomplishment. But overcoming and having success in spite of the challenges faced is worthy of recognition. Acknowledging contributions made to the greater society by people who drew on their individual culture is laudable. One majority culture is always going to be predominant. So by refusing to acknowledge the other cuture's contribution, is minimizing or erasing the ability to belong which is a deficit in a melting pot society. I'm speaking in broad terms and not the DEI mandates that seemed to to have paralyzed you and with which you seem to be having a difficult time adapting. But congrats to your company on having no issues.
