I don’t even think he wants to come back. Dude has been chilling, living the high life for a while now. 8 starts in his last 2.5 years. The PTSD from game 3, his last outing, might be a factor too. I dunno. I just think he’s done.
Funny that when he signed that contract most felt it was a great deal to do and a good get for the org, boy was that wrong.....
McCullers is one of many arguments in favor of never giving any pitcher more than 2 guaranteed years. Pitching staffs should be made of all homegrown guys (or trade acquisitions) on year to year deals supplemented with guys on 1 or 2 year free agent contracts.
This really sucks. It can be easy to get frustrated with Lance, but looking through a realistic lense, he’s almost assuredly been doing everything he possibly can to come back. His elbow and forearm just clearly aren’t recovering the way he would want, and might not be capable of pitching anymore. For a guy who clearly loves Houston as much as he does, and has some huge moments in our WS runs, it sucks to see it play out this way. I really hope he can one day come back, but if he doesn’t I’ll always be grateful for the way he pitched for us when healthy. And like many others are pointing out, that contract of his really is brutal.
Since 2021, so far for 51 million they've gotten 17 wins, 210 innings and still have another 34 milly to give him, ouch.....
5 for 85 really isn't brutal, in fact it was seen as a good deal for a guy with his stuff but since he's not been pitching fo rpretty much 3 years its now brutal.....
I think he’s mentally done with it. I definitely think there’s a chance that he doesn’t want to pitch anymore.
I didn't. And I also opposed the Abreu deal. Granted, I wanted Rendon here... so I own up to that bad take.
