JFC man if this team ran a lineup of Amen/Reed/Cam/Chet/Sengun. No use crying over spilled milk but with how things have panned out Chet would've been the absolute perfect complement to Sengun.
I fear very little creation ability in set half court sets outside of Amen with this line up. I don't think Sengun is a Harden/Luka level heliocentric talent to whip out this type of line up as a sustainable contender lineup.
Oh, he is crazy good. Arguably an all time top 3 coach in europe. Here is the resume: 6 euro champions, 3 of the last 4 euroleagues, with different teams, and some of those teams were bottom teams when he took over. It is not like he won those with dynasties. I don't think he can get along with players and assistant coaches in the nba though. he is the mediterranean type, shouting, getting angry etc., not a style that is acceptable in the nba. As head coach 3× EuroLeague champion (2021, 2022, 2024) EuroCup champion (2016) FIBA Saporta Cup champion (2002) FIBA EuroChallenge champion (2012) Greek League champion (2024) 6× Turkish Super League champion (2009, 2012, 2013, 2019, 2021, 2023) 6× Turkish Cup winner (2004, 2005, 2009, 2012, 2018, 2022) 7× Turkish Super Cup winner (2000, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2018, 2019, 2022) EuroLeague Coach of the Year (2021) Greek League Coach of the Year (2024)
In the national team, I believe so, at least at times. But in fiba basketball, the paint is more crowded, there is less spacing, it is harder to isolate players and the guards are not as quick as the ones in the nba. So overall his disadvantage against quicker guards is much less exploitable.
I doubt if Sengun is ever going to be a superstar either but Amen? C'mon man, Amen has no chance of being a superstar. As a matter of fact, Jalen, Cam or Sheppard are 50 times more likely to be superstars than Amen. Amen is just Tari with better basketball IQ and playmaking but worse shooting.
Amen is 14-10-4 as a starter over 23 games as a rookie, and is already one of the best defenders in the NBA. All of this without the ball... His floor is a star.
JFC this is one of the worst takes I've ever seen on this site. And there is a thread of people still pining over Kevin Porter Jr.
Well, doing it without the ball doesn't really help your case. Superstars typically create with the ball in their hands, and there's a pretty good chance no team in the NBA will let 13,8% 3 point shooter point guard handle the ball in 2020s. That's why Ime played him at 3 and that's where he'll be playing his whole career. I'm open for a long-term bet for any amount you like. I bet Amen Thompson to not make all-star team in the next 10 years.
Alright. Pretty sure you'll bounce the minute he gets his All Star nod but I'm good with a bill towards the CF tip jar.
He is the Gianni’s type. With that kind of athleticism, iq, defensive instincts he is almost a guaranteed all-star.
You described a young man as a high IQ, playmaking Tari Eason and yet you say that is not a superstar!?
I said "better" BBIQ and playmaking, worse shooting, but yes. I don't see the high-end superstar potential in Amen, Tari, and Jabari. They're more like 4th or 5th guys in their primes on a contender, in my opinion. As underwhelming as Jalen has been through three seasons, I still think he has a better chance at stardom than those guys.
Plenty of guys improve on their three point shooting. Amen literally has the highest potential on our team. You know Jrue Holiday has been an all star. I don't see any way Amen's floor isn't just a better Jrue Holiday as he's bigger and way more athletic. His defense is already on par.. Amen looks like he could be a smarter Russell Westbrook. That's dangerous. Westbrook had piss poor shot selection. If you could control him just a bit he woulda been a much better player.
Not just smarter, stronger, more athletic, better vision, more mature, much better defense. The only thing he is behind is shooting.
I love Sengun and he is our best player currently, but he will always have some Physical limitations. Amen on the other hand is one of the best Athletes to play basketball, his potential is insane. If you are saying Sengun has a better chance of reaching his potential I agree with that, because Amen has a very big flaw right now.
I think we are close. I just think people overrate athletic ability vs. existing unique skillset when it comes to assessing "potential". That's why outstanding athletes often get overrated in terms of potential (and don't live up to it) whereas incredibly skilled guys get underrated because of assumed "athletic limitations". The only notable exception I can think of where someone who came in with limited skills, but outstanding athleticism lived up to his "potential" is Giannis. But there are plenty of examples where average athletes who flashed unique skills early on became champions and/or hall of famers, like Jokic, Dirk, Nash, Billups, Curry, Klay, Draymond, Harden, Durant, Duncan, Doncic, Kidd, Stockton, etc. I see Sengun and potentially Sheppard in the latter category.
