I think the difference is Beryl is a direct hit vs some stronger hurricanes, with respect to the strongest winds coming straight through the heart of Houston. Good lord had the dry air not been there to prevent it from intensifying b4 landfall, like it wanted to.
When is this damn thing moving out of here? My street drainage and my windows can't hold on much longer here
Dang, sorry to hear that. In Cypress as well and had no power issues. Internet went out for maybe 2 minutes but that's it. However, I see a leak in our roof. Boo.
I guess it was the fact it was still strengthening at landfall that made this feel worse than a Cat 1. Made landfall at 3:55 am as a Cat 1…and wind gusts at Bush IAH were still over 80 mph around 9:30 am, over 5 hours after landfall. That’s nuts. My power flickered repeatedly from about 5:45 am on out on the west side of town. Went out once for nearly a minute it seemed..but came back. Feeling pretty fortunate. My neighborhood is newer and doesn’t have huge trees…I bet the neighborhoods near me with older, mature trees are without power..just like they were for 4-5 days after derecho. We’re very fortunate this wasn’t a stronger storm given its path. We haven’t had the eye of a hurricane pass over the city since Ike in 2008…hopefully we get another 16 years of that at least.
Dang. Lucky on power for y'all. Boring as hell here. Little worried on the fridge if this keeps up. Hope the roof leak eventually comes out ok.
