Astros better sweep then. Going 1-1 (or worse) after tonight's bullcrap is a win for MINN. They're already ahead in the WC, and the Astros pitching staff is running on fumes.
I'm not saying you don't trot out Contreras. What I am saying is how in the hell do you leave him in SO LONG that you're bringing Hader in with a save situation? I mean you go to mound and say what to him? And then leave him in only to walk the next batter? Who does this? Only Joe Espada. I've never seen the likes of this in nearly 50 years of watching baseball and the Astros. Joe is not cut out for this manager gig.
The distinguished H. Brown will effortlessly and playfully toss a 2 hit complete game shutout tomorrow.
That would be nice. If he’s gonna be an axe that’s the kind of **** you got to do when the team needs you. Need at least 7 then Scott and Presley to close it out.
The good news of pulling Martinez like he did is he'll be able to help bridge from the starter to the back of the pen. Abreu didn't pitch yesterday, so he's available as well. Martinez, Abreu, Scott, Pressly. Hopefully we only need 2 of the 4.
I'm not knocking Espada tonight. Other than Martinez perhaps pitching another inning, he made sound decisions. The bullpen and pitching staff is running on fumes. Contreras just couldn’t get the final out. However, my confidence level on Hader is down to a 6 -- above average. Dude has been giving up "slug" all season. Meyers saved him a few times, or his numbers could be worse. ERA is almost 4.00 .
All they asked of Contreras was to get ONE out. Contreras couldn't do it. When Joe brough Hader in, it was not a save situation. The score was 13-8. Maybe we see it as such because the bases were loaded. Joe was counting on not to have to use Hader since it's a "blow out". He gave Contreras multiple chances to get the final out and he couldn't do it. Bringing Hader in with the bases loaded was definitely a calculated risk. Even if they hit a homerun (which of course they did), Twins are still down 1 run with 2 outs. Had Hader not able to get the final out and blow the game, that's on Hader.
That game was too much excitement. I knew when Vasquez got on that Correa was going to homer and so did all of Target Field. At least the few thousand who were still there.
I keep coming back to these threads just to enjoy the incessant b****ing after a win tonite and after one of the most sustained periods of winning by any Major League Baseball franchise ever over damn near a decade now lol. Doesn’t matter who the manager is. Who the owner is. Who struck out. Who pitched. The b****ing is the one constant. Never change.
