Of course they are. They are great basketball minds like me. Amen is our best bet at a superstar on this team. I’ll also make a tip jar bet that he shoots 30% or better on corner 3’s this upcoming season.
With Amen though it's true. Of the last 5 drafts I think Wemby, Chet and Amen are the three players I'd comfortably say have a chance to be generational.
Generational perimeter defender - Amen Generational 3pt shooter - IRS Generational dunker - Jalen Generation trade piece - Alpi Generational potential 6th man - Cam/Tari Generational Playboy Coach - Ime Generation sh**ty owner - Till Man
Getting above 30% on threes would be a huge leap for him--but he does have that kind of work ethic and now has NBA coaching to help him, so it's not impossible. Don't know if I'd bet on it personally, but I suppose I wouldn't want to bet against it either. He has by far the best physical tools on the team--comparable athleticism to Jalen in a taller/longer frame that seems built to pack on more muscle mass. I think I would already say I see something close to AK-47/Andre Iguodala as a very high likelihood; whether he can step to the next level and become a true franchise cornerstone, I don't know. Lot of work to do, but it's early, and some guys just get better and better, and he seems like the type of personality that would do it.
I'd bet on Amen getting to +30% from 3 easier than I'd bet on Jalen becoming a consistent scorer, Jabari being a consistent dribbler, Cam becoming a better team player or Tari becoming a consistent 3 point shooter. Him and Sengun are the players I worry about the least.
A future of him as PG with Sheppard leading the second unit could work out nicely. Likewise, they could develop him as a Tatum type clone and use him as our 30PPG man. Tatum is a bit like Duncan in that he is VERY effective and gets no media attention.
Just to clarify I meant corner 3’s. It would be a huge jump to 30+ on overall 3’s. If he can knock down corner 3’s he could be an all-star as early as this year playing point-forward. His defense is absolutely first team all-defense worthy. His rebounding offensively and defensively is incredible. We are a devastating transitional team when Amen is on the court.
Adjectives in the English language has been inflated by the internet more than grade inflation in college these days. At least he's inflating on the positive side. Try telling someone that an average player is 'mediocre,' or an 8th man 'not a good player' and see what kind of push back you get.
If the Thompson pick were a home run swing, the rookie year was a really good sounding crack of the bat. Unfortunately, the ball is going into dead center, and the crowd waits in anticipation to see where it lands. The wall in this analogy being at least a neutral on floor spacing.
If Amen can shoot 30%+ from 3, the sky's the limit. Ja only shoots like 30% from 3, but it's just good enough.
It’s okay to be a good passer out of the forward positions. I think guards have to be able to shoot, plain and simple. Until Amen can shoot 32-33% would rather have Fred or Reed running the point. There’s nothing wrong with the way we played Amen last year. I say keep running him out at both forward spots.
