Yeap, despite the claims otherwise in a barrage of "See, he gets it" memes and other attempts at trying to seem just a jokester that tries to push buttons for trolling purposes, the truth always comes out. Haters be hating and are usually the first ones to claim they are not and that others are paranoid. It's so predictable it's laughable.
I LOVE defending my Houston Rockets!!! H-Town!!! Ever see Alperen not in Houston Rocket gear? Didn't think so!
"This is my year" Bruno Fernando to optimize Kevin Porter Jr. Dyson Daniels Mark Williams Walker Kessler Mo Bamba Jock Landale going to take his minutes... Brook Lopez Myles Turner "Lost his mind..." etc... It's so damn funny we passed on Donovan Clingan... I suspect that Mr. Ime Udoka has flipped these "sources" upside down.
“It’s his stamina” “It’s his defense” “It’s his lack of shooting” “It’s his foul trouble” “We need a lob threat” “It’s his work ethic” “He needs the push” “He needs the coaching” “He had a rough camp” “Yeah, he had an ok year but let’s see him/can he do it again” (<—We are here) “Let’s see him hold up in the playoffs before we commit to him long term” Never forget Stephen Silas called him out every chance he got (while nary a peep about the others) Spoiler Stephen Silas on Alperen Sengun’s defense: "He has been early in his pick&roll call, and the terminology is different than he’s probably ever had before, so him being early in those calls in important as far as our reaction into the ball and then our protection behind the ball.." Silas said he had to take Sengun out b/c he couldn’t guard Giannis at the 5. Silas wasn't happy with a Sengun turnover. Brought Fernando into the game, had words with Sengun and followed him down to the end of the bench. Stephen Silas on what he wants to see from Alperen Sengun defensively: "The main development for him is the fouls ... You want him to be aggressive but not the fouling." "We need everybody to give effort on the defensive end," said Silas. When asked if that's why Alperen Şengün didn't play the 4th, said Silas, "Yeah, I mean, they went at him with every pick-and-roll. Every single one." Stephen Silas on Alperen Sengun tonight: "The switching is more difficult when Alpi is on the floor. That makes the defense a little more difficult, against this team in particular." Silas on Sengun: “There’s more to it than just the spectacular plays that he makes. There’s the plays at the top of the floor when we’re a little bit disorganized. There’s the defensive part. There’s a lot that he’s good at, but he also has to learn." Silas on Sengun "Last year he was thinking "score, score score". This year [...] he's thinking if he can score quick, he'll score quick otherwise he'll make a play for his teammates." Asked Silas why Alperen Sengun appears singled out defensively: "We've had conversations about it. It's not like he's being punished at all. I don't want him to put so much pressure on himself if there's an adjustment made and it's one game or two games out of 82." I still hear “but his defense”. How did they have a top 10 defense with a defensive sieve, their last line of defense being a sieve, targeted every time down the floor being a sieve, yet no one else made an all-defensive team or votes for DPOY. (Brooks got two second place votes for all-defensive team) (1. TWolves 2. Magic 3. Celtics 4. Thunder 5. Heat 6. Cavs 7. Pelicans 8. Nuggets 9. Rockets 9. Knicks) Top 15 in dRtg Top 30 in DWS Top 15 in DBPM Spoiler
Great summary. Could add all the people they wanted to trade him for...some downright laughable. The thing I don't quite understand is...why?
The most absurd part is stuff like 'He lacks work ethic' were said in a team with KPJ and Wood. 'he needs to prove himself' and 'it is normal that he is held accountable' in a team where kpj and green had unlimited freedom and were not held accountable for anything.
There is also the arguments to defend Silas which were even more absurd, claiming that everything is normal and nothing fishy is going on, - We were crazy to think that it was Silas's choice that Sengun does not shoot 3s, which eventually was confirmed by Silas. - He was not given minutes because he was getting into foul trouble, where in reality he was just finishing games with 3 fouls sitting on the bench and many others.
Defense was the most legit and actual concern/criticism. The problem was not acknowledging what he was doing well in defense, never talking about how bad the perimeter defense was and whether there could be other schemes that is better suited for him.
Team defense was horrible during the Silas era. And people blamed the lack of rim protector anchoring the defense. We changed the coach who held everybody accountable on defense and boom we were in the top 10 without a rim protector. Edit: I should add that we got two good veteran perimeter defenders in FVV and Brooks. From bottom 5 to top 10 without changing the "defensive anchor."
