I came across this site about this time last year. I was clammoring for any info on what the new unis were going to look like, so I scoured the net trying to find anything. That is when I found clutchfans.net. I love having a place to talk and share opinions about basketball and, my favorite pro team, the Rockets with other very knowledgeable people. So, I guess I joined after the "Yao rush" but it had nothing to do with it. I have been a "die-hard" Rockets fan since the early 90's and wish that I had found this site a long time ago.

 

I joined about a year and a half ago, after a friend recommended it.

I actually remembered posting on a site during the '96-97 season that was affiliated through the Chronicle while I was in grad school.

Maybe it was ClutchCity, but I don't think it was. I can't even remember what my user name was, but I do remember a guy who went by the name of "mikmar". He was a huge Sonics fan and always was running his mouth off about how the Sonics owned us (which was true up to that time). Thank God that ended when Barkley showed up.

As for the current site, I just remember doing a google search to find information on the Rockets and this was one of the first things that came up but it was the front page. I only stumbled on the BBS by accident. I should have just lurked for a while, but I immediately signed up and starting posting.

i'm way into stats so it is interesting to me that though "after" should outnumber "before" 2:1 in the general member population, it is being outnumbered the other way 4:1 in this poll.

 

Until Yao, we didn't have to register to lurk .

Put it this way, I remember when the old forum was filled with topics about Kevin Johnson heading to the Rockets.

 

Oh yeah, if it wasn't KJ it was Derek Harper coming from the Mavs. I remember us wondering why the combination of Maloney and B. Price wouldn't get the deal done.

I came to ClutchCity right before the Barkley trade went down, so yeah I've been here for the Barkley rush, the Pippen rush, the Francis rush, the Yao rush, and now the McGrady rush.

Yeah but the McGrady rush has been kind of light because now you have to contribute in order to join. I think I've only seen about 3-4 new guys that post regularly since the T-mac trade.

 

No... there were between 3600 and 3700 members (and someone will correct me if I'm wrong!) before we got Yao. I found the BBS when it was CC.com, during the late spring, early summer of the year we traded for Francis. Early enough to read about the scoops, like the overheard conversation in the Mall. (the Mall Guy... now I've forgotten who he was!)

I was fearful of Behad and Mango, which I've mentioned before, ripping me to shreads if I posted, so I just lurked. One of my dumber decisions. I love this place.

 

The Houston Chronicle actually had a decent Rockets Forum at one time. I used to post on there all the time in '98. A lot of idiots started posting on there and ruined it, so I left and found this place.

Been a Rocket fan since they arrived in Houston.

 

I think it was Clutch's sister's webspace, but I'm not sure. Whatever, I was here from then. Didn't participate in the BBS for a couple of years (didn't seem any point since I had little access to game footage).

I never even knew about message boards until I decided to look on the ESPN message board site and saw how the whole 'process' went. One poster on that board said that their favorite rocket bbs was clutchcity.net. I joined and had my first online post the same day. It was way before Yao came on board.
