Sure, it was an expert level move to usurp the #4 team by drafting 3rd. Amazing how we pulled it off.
Stockton was the consummate point guard. The dude was a point guard from birth. He was also much smaller than Shep and not nearly as athletic and shot 72% from the line in college and... I mean, Shep has more in common with Yao than Stockton. (Hyperbole is appropriate here.) The only white guard I can think of who could get up like Shep is Rex Chapman: And he's not a good comp for skills.
Can anyone try a non-white guy comp? I actually think FVV might be the best physical comp in the league now. Less than an inch difference between the two in standing reach and wingspan, which is the length that matters. The major differences are 15 lbs, and hopefully Shep will close that gap with weight training in the coming years; and Shep can jump over FVV. A much better leaping and shooting FVV would be pretty cool.
I'm overly optimistic, but think he has a shot in year 2. His FT% in HS was better than his one year at UK. You guys can crush me if he's not close in 2025.
Steph Curry has insane ball handling abiility and a 8' 1" reach. Also, he's agile...serious lateral agility.
I like the optimism, my skepticism is just that the NBA is a major leap from College. Everyone on an NBA team was an All-American this or that, 5 Star recruit, top of their Euro League, etc. Getting acclimated to playing against every player on that level takes an adjustment period.
Realistically the best comp for Reed is literally on this team already. If Reed can do everything FVV does he’ll be an all-star more often than not since he’s bigger and more athletic (and SHOULD be a better shooter too).
Sheppard and Curry have almost identical physical measurements (height, wingspan, standing reach). Maybe a couple of inches difference in standing reach, but Sheppard has a much higher vert.
I stand corrected. Their measurements ARE close. But, the ballhandling is in another stratosphere, and then there's the agility.
