Roster as is, is solid. If healthy Cam Johnson would be a solid addition. He’s never played in more than 66 games. The last two seasons 25/58. Hard pass. For the same reason, no to Ingram and Zion. The team made a quantum move forward last season. The influx of Adams ( fingers crossed for 50+/- games) and return of Eason, Rockets front court in good shape. As others have said, “let this team cook” Still way behind in the arms races, with Mavs, OKC, BOS, others. Let’s first get in the playoffs and see what this team can do.
@astrosrule IJS... his plan is to make that 2027 swap just a few spots Link to article: Nets expected to follow shorter rebuild strategy (nypost.com)
Reading is fundamental = they plan to pursue stars. All it takes is for 2 disgruntled stars to want out & boom they have a big 3 overnight. Brooklyn / NYC ain't built like other NBA cities. Nike / Adidas pay more for their athletes to be in those cities. Players love the accolades & shine of playing in a LA or NYC (or Miami). It is what it is. I am sure next year when they have the cap space & picks to pursue some of the bigger names via trades & free agency = Yul C
The Knicks were trash for a long time. After the KD/Kyrie/Harden fiasco I'm not sure stars will be lining up to go to BK.
Incoming Players Davion Mitchell 25 year old, 6-0, 202 lb PG from Baylor No games yet played in 2024-2025 Gradey Dick 20 year old, 6-6, 200 lb GF from Kansas No games yet played in 2024-2025 Outgoing Players Jalen Green 22 year old, 6-4, 186 lb SG from NBA G League Ignite No games yet played in 2024-2025
$$$$ talks... ask PG & Daryl Morey is a liar Also, wasn't that more about Kyrie and KD's relationship? Then Beard bailed...
Three way trade To Houston Kevin Huerter To New Orleans Jock Landale JaeSean Tate Harrison Barnes 2025 Sac First 2028 Houston First top 18 protected. VlConveys to multiple 2nds if in top 18. To Sac Brandon Ingram I like Huerter and this allows us to swap in some shooting/scoring. Huerter also is a decent secondary creator. This should free up a few minutes in Huerter playing less than Brooks. New Orleans needs a center and we only give up a first if it sucks. Sengun/Adams/Jabari as stretch 5. Jabari/Tari Amen/Cam Green/Huerter FVV/Holiday/Reed
I think the rockets are done until the trade deadline. It is unfortunate to me, because I think holding on to brooks will slow the development of Amen and Cam. Brooks and a highly protected pick for brogdon would be ideal. He is a good option as a backup to FVV and Green until Shep is ready. It gets brooks off the payroll for next year, provides some insurance for a Jalen flop or FVV injury and brogdon could also be traded at the deadline or just expire after the season. Washington is compiling assets for the re-build and brooks is even more tradeable next off-season
The Rockets are tied for 3rd among FRPs from 2027 on in quantity and will have 6 FRPs eligible for trades in 2 years (edit: this may be 4th or 5th as some moves have not been made official). Even a highly protected FRP would drop that from 6 to 5. I don't think the Rockets made the Nets trade so they could undo half of it for Brogdon. I think the Rockets want that number up to 7 or 8 such that if/when they trade 4 FRPs, they essentially have a full allotment left. Unless a star comes available soon, I think Stone wants to wait out the Suns. Even if the Suns don't trade with the Rockets, I think the Suns will be a lottery team in 2 years (along with possibly the Nets). Maybe not as bad as Nets next season, but still lottery. I just don't see the Rockets trading FRPs for non-stars.
Someone needs to remind the Nets that for those early picks to aid their "quick turnaround" there has to be a star available for them to pick .... and they have to make that pick. Quick turnaround, just look at Detroit and Orlando or Sacramento that was bad for a decade. That 27 swap is gonna be golden.
Pretty sure they're planning to clean the decks and sign FAs who want out / contract ended (e.g. FVV) or trade with a team who want a "star" gone (e.g. Zion in a few months). FVV - Cam Thomas - Zion - 2025 FRP - Claxton wouldn't be horrible lineup in the East... IJS. Could meltdown in 2027 tho... Their rebuild will be slightly different than ours because (1) no albatross contracts (e.g. Wall) on their books & (2) don't owe their immediate picks to another team (e.g. our picks were only protected from OKC if we did bad so.... we did horrible)
Ummm....whether they want to admit or not. They've been rebuilding since the Durant/Kyrie trades. Tanking, yes, that started recently. (1) Ben Simmons will have been on their books for 2 years since they started the rebuild...basically as long as Wall was on Rockets books. (2) They owed their next 4 picks at the start of their rebuild either outright or as a swap. Even if you want to discount that by giving up 2 swaps and 2 FRPs (they paid a high price to have their picks back), they still lost the No. 3 pick and still owe the 27 pick. Thunder got the No. 12 pick several years after the start of the Rockets rebuild and likely will get the 26 pick when the Rockets are not a lottery team. Their rebuild wasn't tanking for a year and half because they had an albatross contract and didn't have their own picks.
