Last year was his rookie season. 5.09ERA Still had hours coming into the test, but was ready for him to go to AAA or the bullpen. Edit: Can't recall what was typing there, but thank you autocorrecting BS for making it something I can't understand.
I know it was from the last series but it's pretty funny watching it now. Wouldn't be so funny had they lost though.
This is why I was hoping they would sign Lorenzen last off season. A solid guy that also can pitch out of the bullpen. Hopefully JV, Garcia, LMJ get healthy and eat up some of those innings. They at the very least need to go with a 6 man rotation as when possible. I think Hunter has 150 innings in him. Not so sure about Blanco.
Love our grind it out style. Dog days coming up after the break and we have 2 maybe 3 fresh arms coming in to strengthen our staff. I feel like Garcia is gonna be nasty. Tucker will be back in a couple of weeks looking to destroy the ball. Yordan will stay hot. Chas will figure it out and get red hot. Diaz singles gonna turn into bombs. Breggy gonna get back to working those counts. Verlander has 9 or 10 good starts in the tank down the stretch, don’t rush him back. We may get a 1st baseman but dubon/singleton/joey ain’t a bad 3 headed monster. plus Hunter Brown is the best pitcher in baseball.
As a video/filmmaker I’d love to be making a documentary about this season. I gotta feeling and it’s gonna be an awesome story
Can't wait to see Garcia. He had one of his most promising starts of his entire career shortly before his injury in that "all cutter" game he threw.
Reminds of the 1993 Oilers season... start 1-4 then finish 12-4. We just don't have Gary Pettis punching Josh Miller in the dugout.
Alex Bregman is one of those guys that players on other teams really dislike - but players on his team love. There are a lot of ball players on the Astros - not the same as professional baseball players - ball players. Guys that don't just play the game as professionals, but live a baseball lifestyle and eat, sleep and drink up the game.
Yeah - the only reason he did not get bumped from the rotation was the persistence of Miller/Murphy and a lack of other rotation options. He was not just bad, he was horrible.
That is probably the biggest thing I think that would make me want to sign him. He is a Maldonado-level impact in in-game strategy and clubhouse culture but can actually play. But I think Bregman will age pretty poorly. Once he loses a step and any of his power goes, I think he will drop off dramatically. He is already to the point where a ton of his success relies on preparation and awareness not so much physical ability. Plus he is more likely to have nagging injuries (which he’s already had) as he gets older.
It really is hard to ignore his impact on the franchise. Still waiting to hear the Astros have at least given Bregman an offer. Are they going to put something on the table during the season @Nook ?
Yeah, Bregman's impact and production is easy to overlook. He reminds me a lot of Craig Nettles. He doesn't have a single skill that carries his game, he relies upon being better than average in a lot of areas, and that can work. He will have nearly 40 WAR at the end of this season at 30 years old. The problem is that the erosion of even one of these skills can make a really big difference - for example his bat, can quickly render him below average. As for resigning him, I think it is going to come down to the market. I can make an argument both ways concerning what he will get on the open market. On one hand he doesn't make an obvious massive difference in the order for a team and he isn't Chapman with the glove - so he shouldn't get a huge deal - on the other hand he can do a lot of things, he is a winner and teams like the Yankees and Dodgers have had interest in the past. I think whether he remains with the Astros will largely depend on the market. From what I have heard, they expect him not to be back - but they are open to him coming back at the right number. I think they will want to clear that salary and let someone else get a chance there.
