It’s a gritty roster that will play hard. And we should be better than last yr just with internal growth. But still a 1st round exit team. I’m okay with that if we actually get there. Patience is the wise approach with so much young talent. Gonna take a lot just to avoid the play-in.
As long as there isn’t a rod popping out of his shin I’m good with whatever he wears. Tari’s just different. All hail Tari.
We've got around $80M in contracts that are unguaranteed beyond this year, the potential for around $50m in cap space available next summer and 4-5 available first round picks to trade. If a major star becomes available, we have the assets to make that trade. I don't think Stone is going to mess that up for something marginally impactful. I suspect this is the team we go to camp with and just wait for the other shoe to drop.
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5608131/2024/07/02/houston-rockets-free-agency/ •Drafting Reed Sheppard and trading for A.J. Griffin — a pair of 20-year-old shooters — aligned more with the team structure than chasing another two-way veteran like Reggie Bullock, Gary Harris or even Gary Trent Jr., who team sources said had quietly expressed interest in teaming up with VanVleet again. •There is a league-wide understanding of what constitutes a superstar, but Houston has only been closely monitoring two situations in recent weeks: Donovan Mitchell in Cleveland and Devin Booker in Phoenix. What has prevented the Rockets from aggressively pursuing either player is the reality that young talents aren’t readily available across the league. •Other rumored names like Kevin Durant are on a different timeline than the Rockets, the interest in Mikal Bridges had dissipated since the February trade deadline and the asking price for Utah’s Lauri Markkanenwas seen as exorbitant — as well as doubts that existed about him being the best player on a contender.
Not gonna lie. If GTJ wants to play in Houston we should do what we can to bring him here. We would have won more games last year with his shooting. He’s only 25 so he fits our timeline. 6’5” with a 6’9” wingspan; career 39% 3pt shooter; can defend a little bit. He’s worth that MLE money or work a sign & trade with TO. If we want to make the playoffs next season we have to upgrade the shooting at the 2.
Any interest in swooping in for DeRozan with the Bulls having little leverage in a SnT? He's been incredibly efficient, would be a good mentor for the young guys, history with FVV, keeps him from LA... He's not an outside shooter of course, and he's at the tail end of his prime, but he comes cheaper than other stars and I believe he'd be a floor raiser. I'd seek to swap Brooks for him, as they don't get along....
The lack of interest in GTJ confuses me. There are stories that he might not get the MLE. Why is Tobias Harris still worth 25 mil a year, but GTJ isn’t worth the MLE?
