I like this signings. Aaron was shooting well last year and he was very consistent. For 5M a season, it's a reasonable investment and can be used as tradable assets. If Green does not show major improvements before the trade deadline next season, we can trade Green for assets without contingent to ask a SG in return. You can also apply the situation to Sengun, and that's why they signed a undrafted backup center. They pretty much hedge everything and make sure no matter how our players turn out, they have a backup plan in place.
I think having a legit backup center, another athletic SF that can finish and defend and a dead-eye shooter are great additions to a team that arguably coulda made the play-in if healthy.
He’s a terrible point guard with low iq. Terrible decision maker especially in transition. Defense was falling off and became a foul machine. Streaky shooter and a ball hog.
When Fred, Holiday, and Sengun were on the court together, the Rockets had a Net Rating of +19.1 Best trio on the team last year that played a minimum of 200 minutes together. Sengun with shooters is the key.
Interesting that this contract agreement should actually give Holiday a no-trade clause (unless his team option is picked up prior to the trade). I doubt he'd block any move if he's buried on the bench, but clearly the trust between him and management are there. $5M is very reasonable for your 3rd string PG who has already demonstrated he can be an adequate injury fill-in and not lose games outright. If and when they decide to part ways with Fred next summer, having Holliday as an option behind Sheppard and Thompson seems like a pretty good way to do your homework a season ahead of schedule.
I think this had more to do with who was NOT in the backcourt in those minutes… I bet the FVV/Reed backcourt would fare just as well. Midgetball FTW!
I like that, but Wash won’t trade their ‘25 FRP… How about Green for a S&T Tyus Jones. Then we can revolutionize the game with the ultimate midgetball lineup: FVV/Reed/Holiday/T.Jones + Amen
Worked for Rox in 94 & 95 Not saying Sengun is Hakeem... but a skilled big man in the paint (who gets double teamed or will eat the other center alive) who can pass to 4 shooters is a recipe for success (because somebody will be open).
Came here to post this - can never have enough great shooters around Alpi. He'll feed them, they'll eat.
Wait, wasn't someone saying that Jock would be pushing Alperen for minutes? Am I misremembering that?
Why I like this signing... - He's solid two-way combo guard who hustles, doesn't complain, and is professional. - At $4.8M he's a good value for a 3/D guard - It's only a one year deal unless we pick up next year's option - He gives us extra trade capital at the deadline (good player/good contract) - He's solid player if one of our guards go down for an extended period of time.
This is the "we're not going to do anything in FA" signing. I don't anticipate any further moves unless one of the big names get put on the market during summer league.
The other thing is matching salaries at the deadline. If a contender needs a backup point who can shoot, they don't have to find salaries to deal for him. He could easily go for a second or in a package for a first... Injuries happen too. Even if a team doesn't need him now, a contender could have an injury and be limited on taking on larger salaries without giving up a rotation piece.
