The Rockets hopefully have Tari, Amen, and Sengun all healthy at the same time for a significant portion of the season. Also, Adams should help and if he doesn't odds are good Landale doesn't mess himself up for the 1st two thirds of the season. Cam, he wasn't really used much until after Tari was hurt.
Of the players who got regular minutes last season, Holiday had the best 3p% on the team, tied with FVV @ .387 Good signing for the 15th roster spot. Easily tradable to a contender after December. This is how you create an asset out of thin air.
Thats fair. But none of those guys moves the needle that much. I don't expect many if any minutes for Reed early on and A.J. will only get Bullock minutes unless he shows a lot. I expect more improvement from guys we already had having a better game. If Amen can shoot, Tari is healthy and Cam can create, that is more than the upgraded bench will improve us IMO.
We were a pretty decent team last season. I don't think they are prayers, but instead expectations that our young guys are growing. What sort of upgrade are you looking for? I know Jalen is currently the punching bag for most fans, but we are unlikely to fetch the value we want out of him. There are no obvious superstar upgrades that appear to be available. The only potential that would make a huge difference to our team is Donovan Mitchell, and that front has been a bit quiet the last few weeks even though an extension has not been signed. Everyone else seems that they will stay put for be time being. Just give it until December/January when honeymoon periods wear out and players may become available.
Define “moving the needle”. If you mean contend for a championship, then no, they don’t move the needle. But I doubt any move we can realistically make can achieve that. But I fully expect them to increase their win total next year and contend for a playoff spot. That’s all I’m asking for.
I think they will contend for a play-in spot. Contending for a playoff spot means the 6 seed and that is a reach.
6th seed means you have secured a playoff spot. Making the play-in means you’re contending for a playoff spot. I fully expect them to be at least in the play-in next year. Otherwise it’ll be a failure.
You have no idea how to constructively build a roster, which is why you should be patient and let Stone do his job
Holiday had periods last year where he saw no playing time and he didn't complain. When he got opportunites, he performed well on both ends of the court. No complaints here.
Not worried about Sheppard's minutes. More worried about next year's cap space. But I guess it's small enough to not worry about it. I actually liked Holiday. Glad we had him. Edit: Just saw the team option of the second year. All good!
I'm surprised he's staying, but I like the signing. It's only one year guaranteed, it provides insurance if Fred gets hurt or Reed isn't ready, and it returns a solid vet who can shoot to the team.
