My wife loves a good action flick. But yes, demographics are pretty proven. Maybe Anya just isn’t a big draw for this type of role and they also downplayed Thor in the trailers. Ultimately it’s probably the marketing that failed. What I’ve learned in business is to lean into what works and learn from mistakes.
I saw some reviewers indicating they should have made Thor "sexier" for the women folx A female filmmaker was telling women to come out and support these films like they did Barbie and Honestly I simply don't see that happening. I think women are more apt to support a big screen LifeTime Movie than something like this this attempt to change female tastes in movies will be a long game thing Same with men . . . . Male Centric Love Stories will be a hard sell Rocket River
I didn't even realize this movie was out. I thought it would have done better....vs bombing at the box office.
I haven't watched furiosa but mostly because it now takes a lot for me to go to the theatres. I find it interesting Atomic Blonde was considered a success because it made 100M off a 30M budget. I liked it but it was a flop to me because it should've done much better. Shows you how warped the numbers game is at the end of the day. This movie seems to have the same viewership but with a higher budget. That plus fury road expectations made it a hard sell if the turnout was mediocre. When you turn It-Girl Anya Taylor Joy into the same species as Sam Cassell, I doubt dudes are going to camp out in front of theatres waiting for day one screenings, studio sponsored Comic Con blitz or not. I haven't seen it and perhaps this isn't even an example of subverting a franchise, but it's definitely not a fix to the problem of throwing the same ideas but with that "twist." Maybe furiosa is a victim of that... Won't know till I see it.
Think this movie would’ve done better if it wasn’t released in the summer. Here are my top 5 mad max movies as follows: 1. Mad Max 2. Furiosa 3. Road Warrior 4. Fury road 5. Cyborg- Van Damme
Okay so this is hands down, one of the worst "blockbuster" movies I've ever seen. From the casting of Chris Hemsworth - or rather the odd and forced silly characterization of who's supposed to be a ruthless leader - to the simplistic plot, silly names, inexplicable parts just to further the story. Then there's the lack of sound effects, nothing felt impactful, as well as no soundtrack to make up for the literally dry scenes that are dragged out for way too long without any serious suspense and largely not creating enough backstory for me to even care whatever the **** is going on. This should've been 1,5 hours max, with a more villainous Dementus - Chris or whomever else - a good soundtrack to support the fighting sequences at least and then it might have worked better. Was this low budget or something and the audience people who loved Thor and monster trucks?
I was 13 when that movie came out. 13-year-old me was 100% all in on that film and it totally clouds my critical judgement of that film. This scene hit hard at 13: I think its the same dynamic that makes 40 year old adults think its cool to collect Kenner Star Wars action figures or whatever. 13 year old me hijacks and short circuits my adult brain.
absolutely horrible take. Furiosa is a masterpiece. George Miller is a hundred years old and is putting out bangers like he’s in his 20s
Yup. They needed Thor to carry the first long half of the movie but the spoiled Aussie pre-Vegemite cheese was too jarring for me. There are a couple of set pieces that would've sold a shorter tighter movie but again the first half was an hour long and could've been edited away. What was swept under was more character or child development for furiosa. Her interaction with Thor was very simple and spoken down. I think I rewatched fury road during pandemic so there were some touchbacks with it. But Miller relied too much on remembering Fury Road to develop her rather than making the prequel a true standalone. More dreams of her mother mentoring or training her or the Oasis would've strengthened the happy ending of the first one and ground the audience with what she was and has to become rather than relying on what he added in the second half. Anya was convincing as Charlese, which was good enough I guess... Dune also ruined futuristic impactful sand for this movie. Denis Villeneuve created spiritual vibes out of sand. This sand felt like what you see hung over on a drive from Vegas
