I thought Monty was the guy to “establish credibility” and start the turn around? Isn’t he well respected? Or Dwane Casey before him. Or Stan Van Gundy before him. Since 2010: John Kuester (2 years) Lawrence Frank (2 years) Maurice Cheeks/John Loyer (1 year) Stan Van Gundy (4 years) Dwane Casey (5 years) Monty Williams (1 year) Joe Dumars (14 years) Stan Van Gundy (4 years) Jeff Bower (1 month; after SVG was fired) Ed Stefanski (2 years) Troy Weaver (4 years) James Borrego is the early name, he of also the Cavs/Lakers search.
The draft is coming up, so unsure if Detroit will find a coach before then. Cavs, Lakers, and now Pistons are the current pool.
I'm just curious what people expect in 1 yr This was not moving from Jordan-Collins bulls to Jordan-Jackson Bulls Rocket River
His relationship with Pistons players wasn't good at all. He didn't communicate well. Nobody ever had a clue about his constantly changing rotations. Among other things, his bizarre and ludicrous treatment of Jaden Ivey caused him to lose the team. Their effort was absolutely pathetic sometimes. What's funny is the public shame of losing in such historic fashion kind of made everyone lay their knives down and the guys finally started playing hard for him ~mid-January. Monty Williams has a public rep as a very nice guy, but in New Orleans and Detroit, he was dictatorial with players and it didn't go over well. He learned from the feet of Nate McMillan as an assistant with the Blazers for several years and "Sarge" is NOT a good example to imitate.
Thanks. I wasn't sure This is definitely a different league from when Francis tried to get JVG fired Which is why I guess JVG is gonna be an Asst rather than a head coach Rocket River
Lol I’m not one to judge coaches by Bickerstaff is the only one in the league I am baffled gets hired
Pistons are just putting up new wallpaper with a new coach to sell the fanbase on next season. That roster construction still has serious issues to work through (e.g. you think we shoot the ball poorly, take a look at the Pistons). They should've just kept Monty until they were ready to enter their phase 2.
