he had a video screwing around with a buddy with homoerotic overtones.

some of the bigots let that be the reason they don’t like him.

I hope the Rockets have plenty of guys deserving the max. There just aren't many players providing significantly more value than their contract is worth that isn't on a rookie deal, rookie extension/RFA, or a max contract.

Man, I can’t believe some of the takes in this thread. I think the front office would have to be nuts to offer Jalen more than $20-$25 mil per. Jalen hasn’t earned a thing. Extending him anywhere in the ball park of what he wants is a straight up terrible decision…which is why it’s probably best to trade him and recoup some value like OKC did with Giddy.

Ah, the Josh C video. Thanks for reminding me, that's a visual I've let go of when JC departed.

The FO offered a contract to kpj after wasting the whole team’s 2 years on the kpj experiment. So yes, there is evidence that they can be nuts.

Vince young made a PRO BOWL in his rookie year...PRO BOWL.

Dawg, you have been around long enough to not be a dipshit and excessively stubborn. We ****ing know what you think...it's ****ing stupid but we ****ing know. Why must you underscore the futility of your position w/ utter bullshit like this. Every bit of analysis everywhere in every sport attempts to adjust for "context neutral" re: opponents, home field, baseball field dimensions, quality of opposition, etc.

You come just slab a big pile of dumbass across the first page of the thread. God damn it's ****ing tiresome.

    Potential stupid question...

If I recall, a team can only offer 2 max at the same time, correct? Or some kind of rule like that.

But what is the exact rule as far as what makes it a max? Meaning, if it was exactly like a max, but $1 less than the max, would it then not be the max? Which if so, seems an easy rule to skirt around.

I didn’t say a word about the quality of Green as a player or a person. I said posters who bring every conversation back to potshots at Green are repetitive and annoying.
I am going to choose to believe you are doing self-aware parody. The alternative is too depressing for the board and humanity as a whole.

I don't think there is a rule for that. It is just very hard to fit a team with 3 max contracts. So there is nothing to skirt around as far as I know.

Neither will get a max extension - they don't deserve it....Alpi is way closer than Jalen to getting one, but you can't give it to one....the other will pout all year and be disgruntled....the wise thing is to let them both get RFA offers and match them.

The danger is that if you believe that one of them is a max player and the other is not.......say Alpi is.....you easily match his salary, but someone will offer Jalen more than you want, and you have a choice of matching or letting him walk for nothing.

The BEST option is to make that decision in the first few months of the season and trade one of them or both away at the trade deadline.

    Gonna be an interesting season.

I don't think there's a rule beyond simple maths. A max contract is X percentage of the salary cap. If a max is 25% of that cap then you can literally only have 3 of them because a 4th would mean you only have 4 players on your entire roster.

Why is it a character or professional issue? How is Young guys horsing around in a room a reflection of character? Was he dishonest? Did he intentionally not make team meetings or constantly late to training camp or practice? Did he cheat someone? Or is this simply a matter of you not agreeing to the sexual act performed in the video?

Green won't receive big offers as an RFA, his stock around the league seem to be quite low. It's a great time to let the market dictate.

On the other hand I feel like Sengun would get some crazy offers thrown at him. I mean teams like New Orleans are asking specifically for Sengun in a trade for Ingram. It seems like we have offered Green in some deals but with no takers.

Let's be honest, the guy's just a bigot, and probably old as **** too. It's times like this is crazy being a European because the US already has attitudes that were more common 30 years ago in comparison - when you get one of the actual bigot ones it's like reading something written by somebody in the early 1970's lmao.

What do you mean by "they don't deserve it"? I agree when it comes to Jalen, but as I just posted in a different thread, this was the list of 48 max contracts last season.

Here are the 48 NBA players with max contracts for the 2023-2024 season:

    1. Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors)
    2. Nikola Jokić (Denver Nuggets)
    3. LeBron James (Los Angeles Lakers)
    4. Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers)
    5. Bradley Beal (Phoenix Suns)
    6. Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns)
    7. Paul George (Los Angeles Clippers)
    8. Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks)
    9. Damian Lillard (Portland Trail Blazers)
    10. Kawhi Leonard (Los Angeles Clippers)
    11. Jimmy Butler (Miami Heat)
    12. Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors)
    13. Rudy Gobert (Minnesota Timberwolves)
    14. Fred VanVleet (Houston Rockets)
    15. Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers)
    16. Luka Dončić (Dallas Mavericks)
    17. Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks)
    18. Zach LaVine (Chicago Bulls)
    19. Tobias Harris (Philadelphia 76ers)
    20. Pascal Siakam (Toronto Raptors)
    21. Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota Timberwolves)
    22. Ja Morant (Memphis Grizzlies)
    23. Zion Williamson (New Orleans Pelicans)
    24. Darius Garland (Cleveland Cavaliers)
    25. Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics)
    26. Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics)
    27. Bam Adebayo (Miami Heat)
    28. De'Aaron Fox (Sacramento Kings)
    29. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder)
    30. Brandon Ingram (New Orleans Pelicans)
    31. Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers)
    32. Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns)
    33. Jamal Murray (Denver Nuggets)
    34. Kristaps Porziņģis (Boston Celtics)
    35. Ben Simmons (Brooklyn Nets)
    36. CJ McCollum (New Orleans Pelicans)
    37. DeMar DeRozan (Chicago Bulls)
    38. Julius Randle (New York Knicks)
    39. Khris Middleton (Milwaukee Bucks)
    40. Jrue Holiday (Boston Celtics)
    41. Michael Porter Jr. (Denver Nuggets)
    42. Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota Timberwolves)
    43. Jaren Jackson Jr. (Memphis Grizzlies)
    44. Domantas Sabonis (Sacramento Kings)
    45. Jerami Grant (Portland Trail Blazers)
    46. Lauri Markkanen (Utah Jazz)
    47. Mikal Bridges (Brooklyn Nets)
    48. RJ Barrett (New York Knicks)
If I am "building from scratch" like the Rockets are kind of doing now, I don't want any players really with a window of less than 5 years.

Really the only players where I would objectively say their trade value is clearly higher (in other words, most people would trade Sengun for them - I still wouldn't) are bolded. You can add Wembanyama and Anthony Edwards to that list, if you want.

Booker - maybe. I wouldn't trade Sengun for Booker. Sengun is more unique.

I wouldn't care about whether Jalen is disgruntled or not.

But I do understand the thought of having cap flexibility or whatever.

But at the end of this season, Sengun will get the max. Maybe the super max. If not from the Rockets, then from another team.

Other than "cap flexibility", I see no reason to not give Sengun the max now. He is the best young talent out there. There is nobody with more potential that would even MAYBE be available on the trade market.

Commit to your young franchise player, Stonetitta.

Which is weird to me...the reason to dislike Jalen Green is because he's terrible at basketball and hasn't shown the work ethic required to improve.

The reason you don't give Sengun the max is because Jalen Green has been really bad and doesn't deserve an extension at all....but they want to pretend that's not the case.

If you give one of them the max while not even offering the other a contract extension at all, it is essentially an insult to someone you are probably hoping to trade later. No need to hurt that already low....potentially non-existent trade value by making it clear to everyone that you don't see him as a guy you see as a future part of your team.

He got caught making a joke privately with friends in his free time. Has nothing to do with professionalism lol.

“Thank God he isn’t the star he thinks he is”? So because of that video you’re rooting against the rockets having their draft pick flourish?

What are you even doing on this board then?

Thats what this is all about. Their hate has nothing to do with basketball or his abilities.
