This is how I feel, top. If Jalen figures it out this year, Sheppard is probably more of an elite shooting 6th man. But if Jalen doesn't, Sheppard is an ideal backcourt fit with Amen. Reed really was an ideal fit for the Rockets' long-term core needs.
Whatever Jalen does is irrelevant to Sheppard, he's the long term PG. If Jalen continues to suck, he'll be replaced by Cam, if he miraculously turns into a halfway decent player, he'll stick around. Amen IMO is the long term SF playing more of a point forward type role. Basically no matter what happens with anyone else, Sheppard was still the perfect fit.

He stepped up to crowd the space aka double, then stepped back directly in the passing lane between the ballhandler and the player hes guarding while also keeping his arms up to deny an over the top pass. It also lead to a missed shot, albeit a foul. If he over commits any more he leaves the wide open corner 3 and you would be saying "wHy dId hE lEaVe hIs mAn".

I'm pretty sure if he was even halfway competent at playing basketball, he wouldn't be facing those criticisms and he could hump all the teammates he wanted. The fact that he's awful at basketball invites further criticism.
I dunno. There's a lot of question marks about who the true long-term "PG" is. Amen and Reed are both contenders, but we've yet to see them play that primary playmaker role at this level. And I could see FVV signing an extension at a cheaper price point after this season and restructuring his contract. I'm also not sold on a long-term backcourt of Reed and Jalen defensively. The length and switchability of this roster is limited if both those guys are in your starting lineup every night. Bottom line, the Rockets have options and Reed gives then a ton of roster flexibility moving forward, regardless if it's in a primary playmaker role or more in that secondary creator/3 and D combo guard position. If Jalen does or doesn't pan out, either way they'll be fine in the backcourt.
