Rox shouldnt trade for anyone until the deadline at the earliest. Dont make the same mistake as the Clippers who traded SGA without knowing how good he can be. Players like Fox, PG, Zion...these are all known commodities by now. If you wanna trade for them we should first determine who among our guys are worth keeping and who can be given away. Look at Pelicans just got Dejounte for spare parts because they were patient and didnt go in blindly.
A year ago I would have said, “Another ball dominant 2-guard that can’t shoot?” But he did shoot league average from 3 last year. I’d need to see it two yrs in a row to trust it. I think we need real shooters around our two best prospects, Amen and Sengun.
One of the best shooters in the NBA? Are we talking about the same De’Arron Fox? he took the 4th most shot attempts a game last year just to score 26.6 ppg I like Fox, but one of the best scorers/shooters in the NBA he is most certainly not
I think adding tier 2 players when you don't have a tier 1 is counter productive. It makes your team better (more wins) but it drastically reduces your odds of winning a championship. Look at the Kings right now, for example, that team has a 0% chance at winning a title. They've got two tier2 guys and they're going nowhere. Same with the Chicago bulls, they added tier 2 players and for what? So they could win 40-something games and get bounced by serious contenders? Same was true of the Derozan/Lowry raptors, the Horford/Millsap/Teague hawks even won 60 games. Or that nuggets team with Iggy, Ty Lawson, and Gallinari. Stacking up tier2 players is fools gold, you'll never win a championship. I think you hold onto your assets and pray that you can fleece someone for a young star (think Shai or Harden), or move up in the draft to steal a tier 1 player (Luka). Or obviously drafting your own and developing them. But until you find that guy I don't think it does you any good to make moves for 2nd tier guys.
I’m sorry but fox is way better than derozan and Lavine and players similar to them . He’s only 26 he’s about to enter his prime
I would be onboard with this one since he's shown signs of becoming a good shooter--depending on the price, of course. One good thing if Fox becomes available is that we probably shouldn't have to compete with OKC and their trove of picks, since they are flush with guards between SGA, J-Dub, Dort, Wallace, and Wiggins. We might have to compete with Utah, but I wonder of Fox and his agent would try to torpedo any attempt to send him there.
depends on the price, but he is definitely not one of the best scorers/shooters in the NBA…not even close
Keep going with this roster/trading for elite proven superstar should be our only 2 options. I love Fox - but he’s not a franchise changing guy yet, and it would cost a fair bit to make this deal you’d think.
Yeah, he's not near the top as a shooter, but he did improve his shooting a lot this season (assuming you buy into it). If he can be an average 3P shooter going forward, I think that's good enough when you factor in his rim pressure and playmaking. I don't think he's a legit #1 option on a contender, but I do think he's better than most #2 options? So maybe like #1B?
Okay. So do you think the kings are legit contenders? On the same level as the Celtics, nuggets, wolves, okc, etc?
As far as a path for a contender. Hope is tier_1 guy comes from homegrown; since usually that's the hardest to get (from another team). Then the tier2/3 can be either homegrown or acquired via trade. Sac's hierarchy is 1. Fox, 2. Sabonis, 3. Keegan. To even pry a Keegan off their team would require a hefty price. Even if Fox is a tier 2 guy; since it's their 'best' guy; it's highly unlikely he's available.
I can live with his current level of 3 point shooting, even last year’s when it was just 32%, because he can compensate with his elite level finishing and excellent midrange game he is a tier 2 star at best…if the Rockets did ever pursue him, right now at this moment I’d be ok with offering Jalen Green, a role player, and 2-3 picks at most
I'm not sure Fox is the right guy to target, but I like your thinking. He's the right age range, dynamic, and local HS legend. His 3pt shooting improved, but FT% declined. His situation and season maybe one to keep an eye on up to trade deadline.
