I don't post much here just a few times. However, I like to read this forum because there are interesting topics. Sometimes it is better to watch the poo fling, like a boxing match, and it is free!

I wish I could write as well as some of the poster here, then maybe I will post more often.

Not a day goes by that I don't come in here and read the new topics.

I think what turns me off to posting is that a lot of threads are started with a long, involved article, and then often are answered with other long, involved articles.

Sometimes I read them, most times I don't.

Rather than waste people's time commenting on or arguing over articles that I didn't take the time to read, I remain silent.

Also, I'm not eager to jump into the hostile environment that is posting.

Instead of putting my neck out there and risking being attacked and flamed, I stay quiet.

THats word, perfect way to break it down, I seriously prolly spent more time researching for my answers in the Islamic woman wearing a headscarf thread than the past 4 years of highschool.

But if I see a long article to start a thread, I usually just dont bother or wait till someone else breaks it down.

    lurk/

    *cough* *cough*

I don't come in here everyday, but when I do I check out a majority of the more interesting threads. I like reading the differing viewpoints, but much as I have been with the other forums lately, I like to watch and not play. More often than not, when I have something to say, someone will end up posting my views as well as or better than I care to take the time to express.

You know you've made it when The_Conquistador is in attendance. Hey, it worked for both of us. I scored points with the ho-biscuit I was with for saying I 'knew' the writer (The_Conquistador on his own merits doesn't come across as appreciating the arts, this certainly helped fool her at least temporarily), and you scored points with my celebrity presence in the audience.

I think you guys b**** about the condition of the Debate and Discussion forum too much. I read it everytime I get on the board and dont get worryed when things become personal - ITS BOUND TO HAPPEN WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU. It's not even close to bad enough to call for "reform" like some people constantly do.

Rather than having it more heavily moderated or b****ing about it, maybe you should just stay out of the conversation if you cant handle someone railing on you (which WILL happen if you say something stupid)

I generally stay out of the conversations because I am too ignorant on the subject or someone else can convey my thoughts much better than myself. But if you do post, prepare to be called out.

It really wouldn't be a big deal if the admins weren't constantly trashing the forum and threatening to shut it down. If they think there's a problem then there is one.

D&D is hands-down the most entertaining forum on the board. Both sides have hillarious posts every day. Keep it uncut! :)

That's the way I look at it. That's when I post in threads asking members to tone it down. Normally, I might skim through it and just ignore the BS. Frequently, I find something good while doing my skimming. But when the admins lay a bomb on the forum, then things are getting out of hand. It's police ourselves time.

I'm obviously a lurker here, and I wanted to say that I find the D&D one of the most informative tools in understanding the various viewpoints on politics and religion today. If you think the D&D is polarized come visit me here at UC Berkeley. Most of you may think that Cal is a bastion of liberalism, but let me tell you there is a hefty conservative voice as well. It makes for clashes that are filled with far more vitriol than the average thread here.

I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I agree 100%...

Im very capable of ignoring things I dont like, but when you hear the admins making noise about how they are tired of the way things are...then whether or not you agree....there is a problem since if they dont like it, they can and will shut it down.

As I have mentioned before, I find this forum so very informative....Im back in school and working fulltime so I dont have the time to scour the net for the info I need to make a informed decision.....thats where this place come in mighty handy.
I read probably 85% of the posts, and alot of the time I read things I would have never found on my own.......this alone totally outweighs the negatives about this forum.

Thats why I haev taken up Deckard's campaign to try to keep things civil...
not that anyon really reads other's sigs....but I put it there anyway in the hope that maybe it might remind folks that we need to try to tone down the hate a little so the admins dont shut this place down.

Im glad to see so many feel the same way about this forum as I do...thanks for posting guys. ;)

I only post when I can add something to the conversation. I do read everything though. I also find this forum useful and very informative. I have learned a lot from reading posts from both sides.
