Around the same place. Obviously, it looks like there is a pretty fire risk Biden loses and age is a significant factor in it. I still have no problem with his age, but the rest of the electorate does. Does that mean some other Democrat would have done better? I don't think there is any way to know. People say they want a third option but wouldn't vote for any in the primary. They say they want restaurants to have healthier food options, but then don't order them when they're available. So I don't really trust that it would have been a slam dunk some other way. Maybe only the rationalizations change.
That's fair. At least you're consistent and probably a solid analysis of where the Dem electorate is. I'm curious as to how you see a 2nd Biden term going though? I assume you believe if he was elected he would almost immediately be replaced by Harris...essentially a Biden win = a Harris Presidency at this point.
Michelle wants no parts of the sh*tshow She didn't like it when Barack was doing it Most democrat candidates have structural flaws that would mobilize the republican base. Kamala or Pete would mobilize the republicans based on their skin tone and sexuality. Rocket River
Liz Cheney She will have to become a Democrat assuming she still considers herself a Republican (or, a RINO).
IIRC in the 2012 election, the Dem incumbent POTUS lost the first debate to the challenger Romney, and went on to win re-election in Nov
pretty sure the Dem incumbent POTUS did not self-destruct and commit political suicide in that debate.
The reason I don't worry about Biden's age is that he seems fine with relying on his team to make decisions. I wouldn't be voting for Biden's mental acuity, but for his brain trust. Trump, by contrast, wants to call the shots himself and doesn't trust others, and that will probably get worse as he declines, not better. A second Biden Admin would be run by committee, I think, until he can't do his part anymore. If Harris takes over, I don't know what we get. But probably not Christian nationalism so I'll call it a win.
I gotta amend myself a bit. I do have a problem with the decline of his mental faculties and I think it's a risk to the nation. He can rely on his team to run things, but in a moment of crisis a failure to perform on his own part could be bad. I can't see inside the decision-making but that his campaign thought he could debate when they agreed to it only to have him fail when we got to it -- that suggests to me that his decline may be accelerating recently. And yet, I will vote for Biden with dementia before I'd vote for Trump. But I don't think he's doing the responsible thing here. The most responsible would have been to prioritize showcasing Kamala Harris from the beginning of his Admin. As I'd suggested back then, he should have done 2 years and retired and made Harris president so she would have enough runway to run as an incumbent. Failing that, he could have decided to not run again and then Harris would have had a path to run and all the biggest names could have jumped in too. But he didn't do that either. So he made gambling on his own health the Democrats' best shot at winning. The best thing he might do now before the convention is to step down, not just from his campaign but from the presidency. Then there would be little question of who the candidate would be -- it'd be Harris as the new president. I don't think she stands a good chance to win. But if Biden's health is deteriorating, it might be a better chance.
