He might start out his Rockets tenure in the G league, but there is upside here for him to at least fulfil the Reggie Bullock type of role, if not more. He is still young and developing. Good addition!

Media: The Rockets don't have much runway to be adding more youth to develop.

    Rockets: Hold my basketball.

I don’t thing many of you realize how badly Atlanta messed up here. When he gets his head straight, he will surpass a few of the players that some of us fawn over. This kid is highly talented. Don’t be too surprised if he gets playing time.

Hopefully this is true but more to the point - on a team that is looking to improve, Griffin will likely be more ready to contribute than any second rounder this year.

FYI, Posted on a Hawks Reddit board:

Why the AJ “Actual Jesus” Griffin debacle is actually a big deal for the team.

I’ve seen many comments saying this doesn’t matter, as long as he plays ball no one should care, freedom of speech, etc.

While I agree he has a right to his opinion, I can only see trouble coming from this.

First, let’s think about some of the things he’s posted:
-Endless bible quotes; pretty harmless. Might gain him a niche of christian fans, but probably isn’t going to be gain him much popularity outside that group. No big deal.

-“The rapture is imminent!” tweets; a little weird, not exactly harmful but kind of a red flag for how intensely christian he is.

-“Listening to Beyoncé makes you a false Christian” This is where it starts to get bad. It might just seem funny and harmless at first, but there is a lot wrong with this. First of all, it screams Q anon/Illuminati bullshit.

More importantly, how will the rest of the Christian members of the team feel about this when 90% of their wives probably listen to Beyoncé? How does he react when the locker room decides to listen to rap music before the game to get hyped up?

-Tweets promoting “The Sound of Freedom”. Many of you probably have no clue what this film is. This is a generic action movie “based on a true story” about sex trafficking.

The film itself is mostly a harmless action movie, but it’s received a cult q anon following and is clearly a right wing grift. The movie has marketed itself with things like “the most important film of the decade”, “Everyone just see this movie to stop child trafficking!”, and “Hollywood does not want you to see this movie!”. And then at the end of the movie they have a “special message” pleading everyone to tell their friends and family to see this movie to raise awareness so they can “stop sex trafficking!” with a QR link to buy more tickets.

Overall the grift itself is mostly harmless, except for the fact that actual sex trafficking organizations have said it’s harmful because it inaccurately portrays what sex trafficking is like in the real world. The whole thing is weird(raise awareness for sex trafficking? As if no one has ever heard of this before?), they offer no real solutions other than “raising awareness buy buying more tickets”.

But I digress as that isn’t the main point, just the gist of what the movie is.

Why is it an issue that AJ Griffin is promoting this? Well, because given that basically the only people promoting this movie are Q anon supporters, it signals strongly that AJ has or will fall down the Q anon rabbit hole.

That’s right, AJ “Actually Jesus” Griffin is going to wind up the next Kyrie, saying something stupid to get cancel or creating locker room drama with his conspiracies.

Even if the hawks PR team gets a handle on AJ, it’s still a locker room disaster.

In that locker room, statistically it’s quite likely that at least one person has a family member who is a part of the LGBTQ minority group. Imagine your cousin is gay, and you realize your teammate must believe he’s going to hell because he loves a man. Or if someone has a trans cousin which AJ must surely believe is a pedophile if he’s fallen down the Q anon rabbit hole.

If AJ is willing to say this stuff on twitter, what is he willing to say in the locker room? How is he going to react when the hawks or the NBA holds a pride night? Is he really going to stay quiet? Even if he decides to sit out that’s a bad look.

While AJ might be a good player with a good fit on the hawks, I can only see this causing issues for the team down the line.

There is already an existing thread for the acquisition of AJ Griffin which is why your previous attempt at starting a second thread was closed.
