Exactly what I feared would happen.

When 2 doddering old men argue, the louder one will look younger 100% of the time. Biden attempted to answer questions honestly, and that was never gonna come off well.

I'll still vote for Bidens corpse over the walking threat to democracy, but this was bad.

 

I didn’t watch it, I didn’t need to. Biden can barely talk with softball scripted interviews. How the hell would he do this? For anyone that knows functional capacity / etc, Biden likely can’t even do ADLs independently (activities of daily living)

Biden might be an out of touch old man in severe cognitive decline but he isn't a fascist.

Our executive branch is run by an army of staffers.

 

I watched it all.

First impression was that physically the 3 year age difference made a big difference. Biden looked really old and stiff. The first 15 minutes were terrible for Biden. He didn’t do well until he got angry.

Trump looked younger but he was terrible. All he had to do was be solid the last 75 minutes and he failed. Every time Biden or the host would say something that Trump knew was bad for him, he would purse his lips.

Still - this was Trump’s debate to win until he just took his lies to an absurd level. To such a preposterous level that it made him appear a stubborn fool. Some gems include claiming that H2O was clean when he was President, the the USA was perfect when he was President and Biden destroyed it… that Putin told him what he wanted to do in Ukraine… to claiming the election was stolen… to he didn’t sleep with a pornstar… that Biden has killed hundreds of thousands at the border.

Both these guys are noticeably worse than 4 years ago and they both are milder and are slowing down. Biden stares off into space, Trump is so delusional now that he literally just throws made up garbage out of his mouth.

 

Tuned towards the latter half. It certainly did sound like Biden had some sort of cold with his voice being weird.
Was funny to see Trump holding himself in and not interrupting - either dead mic or going to jail was forcing him to behave.
He'd still completely ignore questions & talk about stuff that triggered him in Biden's response, making him look just as asinine (plus all the lies that he had memorized on repeat for his rallies). But him making faces is still entertaining compared to Biden's blank stares judging by the news coverage...

John Stewart, I think poignantly, suggested that they both should've taken adderall/ritalin so as not to embarrass the nation as much as they did.

Depressing to see a nation as great as ours being run by fools. Hope it holds up another 4 years. Civil rights being run by states is good point by BIden - it's beginning to look like living in different countries when crossing party/state lines. This division is just what the Russians and the Chinese hope for - it makes us weak.

3. Yes Trump lies all the time. That isn't new. I didn't say there was nothing to see here. I said there is only one way Biden isn't on the ticket. That is just the way it works. I would love it if another person was on the ballot. But I have heard nothing from Biden saying that he will drop out. It could happen. But as of now, I hadn't heard that.

 

After listening to CNN just deride Biden they did bring up a good point. Biden's position on stage. He wasn't staring off into space. He was looking at the moderators listening to the questions. (I believe they said moderators). I agree with everything else you said. Biden looked old and fragile.

 

Being President is tremendously aging and stressful you see all the Presidents who enter in their 40s looking relatively youthful leaving looking 20 years older.
I imagine those effects are magnified on someone 80+ like Biden. Sure looked that way.

Hard to imagine where he’s going to be 4 years from now physically and mentally if reelected.

 

I don't think I ever even read this original post. Two comments: I'm not MAGA, as I think I've made patently clear over the years. And two: this post did not age well.

The performance by Biden last night was the worst ever by anyone in a presidential debate. Never seen any thing like it. Somehow the Democrats need to regroup and come up with sort of plan to keep trump out of the White House. I know Biden is old and he stutters but his issues went far beyond that last night. He seemed scared, angry, and unsure of himself and did not really know what to say pretty much the entire debate. At times he did not seem quite sure where he was.

On the other hand trump was lucid, had a strong voice, and most of the time acted like the cat that just ate the canary. The problem with trump was the content of his message. It was a combination of lies, exaggerations, authoritarian messaging sure to delight the MAGA cult that hang on his every word. It remains to be seen how the more sensible people he needs to win the election will respond. Moderate voters will not be encouraged to vote for trump after his debate performance last night. Because Biden was so awful my fear is that many will either not vote or hold their nose and vote for trump anyway even though they know it is not the right thing to do.

Know matter what I will not vote for trump. I think we need to do everything possible to keep him out of the White House. Somehow he needs to be stopped. The future of our country depends on it.

 

He needs supreme court justices to die or resign. Alternative is they control all 3 branches to codify abortion rights. Can't do it right now.

 

I think it boils down to "It's the economy, stupid"

Biden's administration cannot survive the brutal cost of living crisis facing Americans.

Historically, a poor economy will kill a President.... from Herbert Hoover... to Jimmy Carter.... to G.H.W. Bush.

Trump doesn't have to do anything, just simply not be the guy in charge while the economy is ****.

And people will tell me "Oh the economy is great" - Which just doesn't jiive with the lived experience. Everything from housing, transportation, groceries, insurance etc etc has gone up in cost dramatically during Bidens administration and that's gonna kill him.
