Shane Battier and Francisco Garcia to some degree from the corner. But this kid can drain it anywhere. And with high IQ playmaking and a tough defender. So not just a one trick pony like most 3 pt savants.
There are questions regarding how Sheppard will get his minutes. It can also be argued that if he can carry his college shooting into the NBA then he should take all the minutes necessary to help the team win. Winning is the ultimate goal and whoever contributes most to that goal should get the minutes. Cam and Amen have still a lot to prove and it would not be good for the team goal and even for them as players if they are handed the minutes without really earning them. Amen has to seriously work on his shot and Cam on his overall game. As for Jalen, well he has a short leash and must work hard this Summer to prove that he can be the player that he was expected to be. It is an interesting time for these young Rockets.
I was half and half on Reed Sheppard, but he was asked the question are you a Reds fan, Mets fan? He said he didn't any team in baseball growing up in KY, but he said he will be an Astros fan. Let's go #15 Rockets!!!!!!
The leash will be tighter I agree. But what goes with that is we are even more focused on winning than last year. The days of seeing if a guy can develop is over for many. I expect some posters and players to claim they didnt get enough of a chance. Stuff like "this guy needs solid minutes to succeed" and similar comments I expect to apply to certain folks. Well, whoever(s) that is, you better take advantage of whatever role and minutes your given, because your number of chances may be limited is my advice.
While I agree in principle with what you've laid out. I think that... - Cam can play some SG - Amen can play some PG - Bari can play small ball 5
DG, You bring up some interesting points. I'd add that Reed will supplement guys like FVV, Amen, etc. by pushing the pace (even more so by passing the ball down the court). He'll likely help guys get easy baskets or assists by moving the ball quickly when he's on the court. Ime will love this aspect of his game. While Clingan is a massive paint asset, I think Shep can be that FS to guys like Amen and Tari being shutdown CBs (perhaps Brooks as well). He'll take advantage of our defensive scheme and talent to come up with steals. Also I think he'll add more hustle to what we already have. As a playmaker, I think he'll make the right play 90-95% of the time (even as a rookie). Those expectations may be too high, but he's been branded with the mindset to make the easy play and I think that will translate well to his transition to the NBA. Reed learning from FVV and watching him lead the team, is the perfect role model for him to start his career. Playing with a center like Alpi, will benefit both players--easy baskets for Reed (assists for Sengun) and good post entry passes for Alpi. Until Fred we really didn't have anyone with that skill. It's going to be up to Reed to win over the team and his play should do that. I'm hoping that Cam and Amen play in the SL (like Bari/Tari) did last year to give them some experience playing together and so that we can also win the SL! It would be good for Griffin as well to get acclimated to our offense/defense. Can't wait to see them in Rockets colors!
