Credit where credit is due. Stone used the media successfully to let the Spurs believe they'd get Reed at 4. These morons probably had the ability to trade 4 and 8 for #1 but felt like Reed would drop to 4 and Clingan would go 3 to a trade up target or the Rockets would draft him straight up. Outside of the Sengun trade this was Stone's best period as a GM and he's garnered more respect out of me. He admits Green isn't cutting it, doubles down on Sengun/Amen, gets more picks from the Nets, drafts the best player in the draft and makes the Spurs trip on their own shoelaces.

It was Reed the whole time. Should've known when they flew out to LA to meet with him and had a follow up meeting here in Houston. But he kept using mouthpieces to keep the Clingan buzz out there. Nice work.

Stone's whole tenure as GM has been successful. If you would've told me 4 years after Harden we'd be here I'd told you you're a liar

100% credit to Stone for doing a very good job.

If I'm a Spurs fan, I'm really upset getting stuck with the brick Castle.

Imagine getting the 4th pick instead of 3rd.

OP I think you are giving Spurs too much credit. I think Pop has gone senile in his old age. If you look at all their picks last 4 yrs they've all been mediocre to bad except for Wemby.

This year they gave away the top 8 pick for nothing when lots of other prospects are on the board. I'm sure Wemby appreciated those swap and pick in 2029/2030 lol.

Much like Orlando outflanking the Rockets for Paolo in 2022, It's pretty easy to outflank a team on draft night for a given prospect when you are given a draft pick that is higher than theirs - it's pretty much the most bulletproof flanking position of all time.

They flanked us for Wemby, we flanked right back for Reed - let's call it a gentleman's draw.

yes because he would have been a seamless fit with wemby. The spurs haven't done crap in the draft besides fall ass backwards into wemby

That’s not the case if they can easily trade up in front of you and judging by the weak trade they made to move no 8 seems they would have rather moved 4 and 8 to get any of the top 3

I think OP is spot on. Most in Media assumed rockets were trading down if Clingan was there. So since rischare was gone they probably thought Reed was gonna be theirs.

obviously we’ll never know but seems like it was the case from what we know.

When we got Pick #3, that bounce of the balls gave us a gift and our team was smart enough to execute. It will be fun seeing how the players from this draft develop over the next few years. I'm so HAPPY that Reed didn't go to SAT. Having lived there twice as a Rockets fan was interesting.
