Guerrero's power has just slowly gone down each of the past three years. His slugging % is only slightly better than Meyers at this point. Maybe we could tap into something in some way. He just relentlessly pounds the ball into the ground. His exit velocity is still elite. Just tough to be extremely productive when 60% of the time you hit a ground ball or pop up.
I will bet you that if he played at MMP he will hit 15 homers in the 2nd half. He probably will do this even if he's not playing at MMP.
I think you are right. Luhnow will not be back, but I have seen no evidence that Luhnow betrayed anyone's trust.
I hope you are wrong about Caratini. He was the best off season move the team made last winter. He would be sorely missed if he can't make it back.
That is fine so long as Diaz and Salazar stay healthy and effective. Hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. That is why Brown brought in another catcher and parked him in AAA.
Yeah- he’s not a super star. He’s a nice player that makes 20M this year and 30M next year. Really the return should be pretty minimal- he has maybe zero surplus value. Maybe $10M in surplus value. Jake meyers, who I am in an argument with someone else on another site that thinks he’s at best a 5th OF and should probably be DFA’d will likely have more WAR during club controlled years than Vlad Jr will (today to end of club control).
Well, the Montero deal was objectively silly. No team should *ever* overpay for a middle reliever. They are historically volatile and their seasons are based on extremely small sample sizes. Abreu addressed a need and made sense. But the third year was what bothered me. Luhnow was far from infallible (I mean, he sealed his own doom, essentially, by trading for Fiers). But this isn't a referendum on his performance as a GM. It's just acknowledging that Crane will never, ever bring Luhnow back.
It's interesting to compare the WAR leaderboards for the team today and at this day last year - lot of similarities on the position side (did you know Bregman has more WAR today than he did last year on this day?) but obviously not on the other. 1B has been...bad so far this season. I don't know it's possible to be that bad at that position honestly. However, they certainly did fix the C position - going from 0 WAR last year to 1.6 already this year. Also, people forget the run Framber had in he first half last season - 3.0 WAR as of 6/27/23 with Brown in second at 1.9. The pitching staff actually looks somehow deeper this season although they really need to do something now about the bottom of the pen.
Another note, just to show how bad the pitching has been this season - after yesterday's dominance, Arrighetti is 5th on the team in pitcher WAR lmao. He has put up more WAR this season than JV, Javier, and Abreu combined.
You sure have a weird, twisted, disingenuous way of debating. Previously, you kept stressing Abreu's 58 million -- 58 million, 58, million. Now you're saying "oh, just the 3rd year was bad". Well, if that's the case, it's not 58 million -- it's 20 million. You just say whatever sounds good in the moment. _____ Bedsides that, Crane is free to be a dumbass and not rehire Luhnow, and not "trust" his management, and attempt being Jerry Jones' twin as much as he wants. The Astros now have little-to-no room for error the remainder of the season.. If Houston misses the playoffs, he will lose more 20 million, 20 million, 20 million.
Why do you have years-old takes of mine committed to memory? Weird. But since you obviously have my posts bookmarked, please show me where I kept stressing $58 million, and how that's not rooted in what has always been my primary objection to the deal, which is that three years was too long for a 36-year old. OK? Jim Crane is not going to rehire Jeff Luhnow. Not right now; not ever. That bridge is burned.
It doesn't take bookmarks to remember a conversation, nor is it weird. But no surprise you would attempt to deflect by "making it sound a way". You are a disingenuous poster. No point in talking about this further.
There's no "attempt" here to deflect anything. Bringing up unrelated, years-old opinions to try and play a game of "gotcha!" and make comment on me as a poster is ****ing weird, abnormal behavior. I mean, what point were you even trying to make? Crane's not bringing Luhnow back. What in the everliving**** does that have to do with my opinion of the Montero and Abreu signings, which you brought up unprompted? You've somehow managed to make your self look like a moron and a stalker in the same post.
Must continue publicly doubting this team. The resurrection is barely underway, and any congratulatory hopefulness could only serve to derail this recent surge. In other words, keep doing what we do here on the BBS…..
