Reed Sheppard is very likely to be a player that would read this board in the future, imo. Just seems like that kind of dude. Welcome, Reed. Love it.
Oh wow I didnt know Chris Paul trained Reed. He must have had a helluva workout with the Rockets. I can't wait to see how he performs in the summer league. Congrats to everyone who was rooting for this pick. Go Rockets!
We just drafted the future head coach and national championship winning head coach of the University of Kentucky.
We will see soon enough. I heard about how great a shooter Jabari was supposed to be, but he's having trouble creating that shot even at 6'11. I wish him the best because he plays for the Rox
Smart pick I think he was the clear pick from day 1. I don’t think there was much debate. shooting always helps I think this was a luxury pick, with not a lot of minutes left to be handed out. But I also think he maintains a lot of trade value even after being selected, if the rockets want to package him in a deal. Win-Win. Good fit if he stays, could be valuable if moved.
Does anyone have the interview broadcast on ABC with John Callipari and Steven A Smith right after Reed was drafted, and they asked John how they think Reed would fit with the Rockets? He had a long pause and some good comments, including how Ime would ensure he fits well, but I can’t find that interview. #577
Summer league "doesn't really matter" and it's hard to judge players in the summer league. We've all seen players like Donte Green and John Lucas III dominate SL, but didn't amount to much in the NBA. However, I've already seen enough to say Reed Sheppard has one of the highest ceilings in this draft and can be the best player in this draft. He can be a star. At minimum he showed the ability to play PG in the NBA, but this may take some time. He almost always makes the right play and is a winning player. Yes, he needs to work parts of his defense, especially moving laterally, but it's hard not to get excited about him. Here is a small summary of what happened in ONE GAME. Offense -Displayed elite shooting as expected -Played with great poise and always made the right play. Methodical -Showed PG ability and dribble penetration. Always looked up when dribbling. -Showed above average vision with multiple difficult passes that he made look easy. -Displayed ability to break down defenders multiple times with simple hesitation or cross-over -Displayed ability to get shot off by quick moves, using screens, and having a quick release -He already has a good midrange and floater game -Elite IQ on offense Defense -Displayed elite IQ on defense -Made quick reads and switched well for most plays -3 BLKS, 1 STL, and multiple deflections by having quick hands and great anticipation -Went straight up multiple times to contest shots resulting in missed FGs -Plus point of attack defender on most possessions -He did get blown by a few times. However, several were either on fast break disadvantage situations or defensive set breakdowns. -Defense will get better with experience and scouting
@Medicine N Music nailed it again. I’ll also point out that Sarr, Risacher, Sheppard and Castle all look good in their early showings. I think most of us felt pretty good about those 4. This draft class may turn out to be much better than folks thought. Yes it’s only summer league but we are getting really good play from these rookies.
