LOL, what a difference a week makes. This time last Wednesday we were 10 games back and talking about trade values. Baseball, as has been said a billion times, is a marathon and not a sprint.
Astros 28-16 in the last 44 games. Included in that are 13 disappointing defeats by 2 runs or fewer. Yes, 13. The good news is we were more than competitive in 41 of our last 44 games. Should have won at least 33 of those 44 games. The bad news is we still are wholly underwhelming in close late games. At the top of the spectrum, this team could have gone on a 37-7 tear. And if two of those wins would have been against Seattle in that four game series, the division would be over, we would be 6 1/2 games ahead. While we have clearly turned things around, it's still a story of what could have been. Sadly.
As great as Hunter Brown pitched yesterday Arrighetti pitched even better today. Seven innings 10 strikeouts, zero walks, zero runs, only three hits; incredible game for Arrighetti. Future is bright if these two young pitchers continue to pitch the way they have the last two days. Hoping we can go on the road after our day off tomorrow and stay hot and stretch this steak out to at least ten games. I don't care how long the winning streak gets as long as we win the next game. Take em one at a time. BTW whoever worked with Brown and Arrighetti to get them from where they were to where they are now deserves a raise.
This is what I recall hearing in an interview of Brown prior to yesterday's game. He credited Josh Miller (pitching coach) and the Astros batters, Bregman specifically, for helping him. Brown started throwing a 2-seam fastball inside on batters to back them off the plate. This is a pitch he used in college but not in the majors.
I think we got the picture the last 50 times you’ve posted about our poor performance in two run games…
HB's been pitching lights out for a while now. Arrighetti's performance for me, anyway, kind of came out of nowhere today. Until today he always seemed to have serious control issues. Tons of walks. Threw way to many pitches. But today he was in complete control, limited number of pitches, and seemed to be able to throw the pitch he wanted where he wanted the entire game. Hope he keeps it up because until today I saw him as the weakest link of our starting pitchers. Now I can't wait for his next start.
I also love guys with talent because when they get it together they win CY Young’s and World Series Rings. Maximizes are good to have around as well.
Feels like he's been MIA since that game when Framber went rogue. He just about threw a party ******** on Yainer after Framber gave up those runs. When it was revealed later that Framber went against Yainer's and the pitching staff's gameplan, he disappeared and never went back to address it it like a coward.
