I think it’s likely that the Nets are bad in 2027, but it is no guarantee in a weak eastern conference. They could hit it big with their 2025 or 2026 picks, and supplement with free agency.

We don’t need phx to be bad next season, we need them to be bad in KD’s 38 year old season.

If you see a debate and BimaThug is on one side and coachbadlee is on the other, and you’re not sure how to feel - that says more about you than about how condescending I might be.

I’m more concerned with the news that Toyota just sold its arena naming rights for the arena to Lane Bryant. Seems like an odd choice

Even when you draft generational talents it takes longer than two years to bounce back. Wemby won 22 game this year. KD’s OKC didn’t bounce back until they got Harden.

This is assuming the Nets become one of the worst teams next year and hit on 50% chance at a top 4 pick, or 14% chance to draft a generational talent to begin with. And for that generational talent not be a bust. There’s tons of uncertainty to tanking.

The 2027 swap is what gives me hope. However, It seemed like Houston had the leverage w Bridges seemingly wanting out, and no FAs really wanting to join him in BK (Donovan seems to be staying put for now). I am wondering what would have happened if Houston just stayed put though, Bridges would still have been traded, I don't think they put together a mediocre team around him, i think they would have just waited to make a trade worst case. The 2025 draft seems to be fairly deep, and we still have not gotten a super star from one of our 4 top 4 picks. I would have thought the best course would be to try to draft as high as possible in the deepest drafts. I am OK with the trade today, but unsure on why make the move today as opposed to waiting a bit longer. I think some of these picks we got back are going to go out and that is why it was done now, I hope it is not Durant though.

I don’t give a **** what you think about me. I just generally don’t jive with “if you don’t agree with my take you’re a simpleton”. I stopped listening to Jim Rome years ago

also Bima has been WAY more nuanced about this trade

People defended us trying to max an injured Oladipo too. Now once again we have to pray everything falls our way over the next 5 years. Honestly hope we package all this, even if for KD. I don’t care anymore, can we just be good again? I’m also old and bitter and sick of always kicking the can down the road. Just wait until we trade these picks into 2034 pick swaps.

In which case they still have two superior players to anyone the Nets would have next year - with Bridges.

Btw, how’s the draft class three years from now? Maybe as good as this one?

I will give you that. This is much better than giving our assets away for Bridges. Stone might have been saved from himself again.

Can't be mad at this trade at all. We didn't want to be drafting any more young guys and were essentially punting these picks down the line. The Nets did fine as well because it allows them to organically tank. The Knicks picks probably are going to suck because Brunson is still pretty young but getting pick control over the next two seasons is good enough for them. I'm sure they wanted this year's #3 but Rockets wouldn't budge. Win/win for both teams IMO. Positions us to be players moving forward when Amen and Sengun hit their primes.

I feel uncertain. If nothing happens, it'll look even worse. Giving up the 2025 swap was a poor decision, especially since that class is very strong. If anything, I hope we get Devin Booker.

The biggest reason I'm okay with this trade (not really thrilled or furious either way) is Brooklyn's picks.

Had they not gotten their picks back they weren't gonna tank, no reason for them to do so. So while we got lucky with the lottery balls this season, the more likely scenario is that we ended up with picks in the 7-14 range because Brooklyn would have kept fielding a roster just good enough to not be abysmal. In the process we also likely increased the value of the 27 Brooklyn pick with the Nets agreeing to tank.

Of course all of this is theoretical, we never know for sure where picks will end up, nobody thought Brooklyns picks would be this good when we got them originally. Plus picks lose a ton of value once they are actually made, the long term "theoretical value" of the Suns pick will likely carry more weight than whoever we pick with Brooklyns, unless of course we got lucky with the lottery balls which is random.

The Suns have Durant,Booker and Beal.
They are easily playoffs team. Those picks don't look good for us.

Rox just had a winning season with a bunch of 21 yr olds. I understand you might die any day now but that's not the Rox's priority.

One thing to consider that hasn't been mentioned... There's going to be a tanking competition this year.

If we'd kept the Nets picks, not only would they have added pieces to be more competitive, but when factoring in that more teams will tank, that probably adds another 2-4 wins by itself.

My guess is the Nets would have been a solid favorite to make the play-in, and that 2025 pick would have been in the 13-16 range.
