Devin Carter, regardless of his height, is this generations Dennis Rodman. Plus he can shoot the ball.
I also really like Devin Carter. Same height like Reed Sheppard but unlike him has long arms at 6'9 wingspan. Also extremely athletic he had 42" inch vert and was the "real" jump king in the combine because Sheppard used some trick to boost his jump height. Unlike Sheppard though Carter also had great results in side to side/agility drills and cone drills. Apparently really good on point of attack D and he had the 4rth highest plus minus in the entire draft. His shooting is a bit of an anomaly compared to previous years but he took 7 shots a night at 38%. Honestly I like him more than RS just because you know he wont be a defensive liability and the shooting is also not bad.
One thing with Carter is I think he fits with Jalen Green much better than Sheppard does. He's bigger, stronger, more athletic, longer arms, more locked in on defense. All things you need next to Jalen in the backcourt. Sheppard I think fits much better with Amen in the backcourt. With Carter, there are enough questions on the shooting that you might hesitate a little on the fit with Amen. I think Carter will shoot, but not at the level where he really compensates for what Amen's not giving you. Both of them fit well with Sengun; Sheppard moreso on offense, Carter moreso on defense. The big argument for Sheppard is really the shooting. If you think he can legitimately become "the best shooter in the NBA" down the line, I can see how that beats out Carter possibly being one of the best rebounders for a guard, all-defense, whatever... that's the way today's league is. I think that's why I probably still lean toward Sheppard overall--but if there's real serious value there, I'd absolutely be willing to trade back for Carter if it were up to me.
Actually Jalen Green already became an above average defender, esp after his post ASB glow up he was consistently a good defender already. Instead of complementing him if we got DC I would see him more as an alternate or even insurance to JG in case he walks. We actually need a two way SG, we dont have any apart from Jalen and Reed Sheppard can only play pg.
I would more say Jalen is an average defender now, although I agree he's no longer a liability. Kinda splitting hairs. Regardless, I think if we want to have a top 3 defense, which I think is clearly the mindset we're in under Ime Udoka, we need not just a good, but elite defender starting in the backcourt. I don't think that's either Green or Sheppard, honestly. Amen, absolutely. Devin Carter, for sure could end up being on that level.
Exactly thats why I kinda prefer Carter. He is a positive on both sides of the ball, whereas with RS you dont know if he will give up on D what he makes on offense.
Reed Sheppard, regardless of his height, is this generation's Mark Price. Plus he can jump out of the gym.
Looks like Sacramento got bullied into drafting Carter. He went about where he should go towards the end of the lottery.
How dare the NBA let such a player fall off into that black hole of a team. What a horrible organization. Carter deserves better. You all know it.
I felt like the Kings would pick him. He’s a coach Brown type of player. Will be excellent in Sacramento.
