    WHAT

    THE

    HELL

    WAS

    THAT

    CRAP??!?

I'm a child of the 80s...but what in the name of Dan Issel was Hollywood thinking? There are Tyler Perry movies that practically qualify as Academy Award best picture nominees when compared to this abomination. I feel like I need to go watch the Twilight saga just to clear my movie palate. Jeez.

I think if you watch a lot of the 80's stuff for the first time in 2024 you'll say the same thing.

The original? Or the remake? Was there even a remake? I don't know.

I do like to show my boys all the cheeseball 80's movies and see their reactions. We watched Lost Boys on Sunday night. They kept laughing at the special effects.

The 80s gave us some of the greatest cinematic moments of all time.

Hot, but real, take- Kevin Bacon's dancing sucked.

Have you seen him lately? Dude has that gift of looking like he's perpetually 25 years old. With no plastic surgery. Kind of like Craig Biggio.

Compadre, you’re hanging out with a rough, Trainspotting-type crowd of Gen Zs or you’re hanging out with a rough crowd of liars…or you need glasses, ‘cause this bro definitely ain’t 25, or even double that.

I have seen him recently and he definitely looks good for his age, but have to agree with Xero, not close to 25. I like Kevin Bacon, he seems like a cool dude. But Footloose is just not good, and as I said, his dancing in the movie sucked. Bacon must have gone to the same non-rhythmic school of dance that Emilio Estevez attended to prepare for Breakfast Club.

Top ten movies of 1984. In context, it doesn't seem quite as bad. Lots of schlock.

    1 Beverly Hills Cop
    2 Ghostbusters
3 Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
    4 Gremlins
    5 The Karate Kid
    6 Police Academy
    7 Footloose
    8 Romancing the Stone
9 Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
    10 Splash

The one thing I still like is the part of the warehouse dance where he is running fast, and it has that strobe effect. That was a great natural effect.

He also has what I think was a very original look that was all his own for the time. And people liked it. The fact that people liked the movie is basically because he was good enough to carry the ridiculousness of it.

But a lot of the plot, even at the time, was hard to buy into despite the fact that one town actually did do it.

The soundtrack was better than the movie.
