Are the new F150's 2004 models? I wonder if there will be incentives on those? I always wanted a pick-up truck.

    Considering the F150 is a Ford, I doubt GM's incentives apply. ;)

But will they keep their prices above MSRP to compensate?

There's a reason why GM has to do this seemingly every year: their cars suck balls! Daimler-Chrysler reinvents the rear-wheel drive, V-8 muscle car in the Dodge Magnum/ Chrysler 300 series and Chevy gives us....the Malibu Maxx (reminds me of an 80's metal band with an extra X on the back of it) with a ropy suspension, pushrod, piece of crap six cylinder and a couple of trick features. Every new Chevy I've seen looks like total garbage and they have no rear wheel drive cars save the Corvette. Their trucks, some of the new Caddy's and the Vette are the only thing worth a damn at GM. They have to import that new GTO that is not that fast and seriously overweight from friggin' Australia and a friend told me they signed a deal with the Union to stop importing it after 2006 or so. Stupid UAW! The one semi-cool car they make and they demand its ouster because it was not made here.
GM is tanking and I'm surprised how long they've lasted, as pathetic as their products are these days.

Initially, I was not happy about the Daimler Chrysler "merger," but the results have been tangible and positive for Dodge. They've always built great looking vehicles, but now they have decades of RWD experience and hardware to draw on. Supposedly they're bringing back the Charger, which will be Dodge's 4-door sedan version of the Dodge Magnum. Can you say Hemi Charger?

I've heard nothing but terrible things about American made cars ever since I got my new 2005 Toyota Corolla last week. Somebody told me as long as I keep the inside clean and the maintain the vehicle itself (oil changes, tune ups, tire rotations and changes, all checks and inspections, etc.) I can trade it in 3 years for something even better because Hondas, Toyotas, and Nissans hold their value much better than American made vehicles and are built to last unlike American made vehicles. This was said by a GM dealer nonetheless. I also heard the same thing from my aunt, uncle, people at work, and countless others. I hope it's true!

Pun, your first mistake is getting into the cycle of having a new car every 3 years. Pay the thing off and drive it for a 100k miles or more. You bought what you thought was a reliable car to sell it off in 2-3 years? Bah. :)

Generally speaking, I would have to agree. I don't know why American manufacturers can't pull their heads out of their collective butts and design something that has performance, reliability, and is a bit averse to ridiculous depreciation. Chrysler is somewhat finally understanding, but hell, it took a German company to knock some sense into them.

Gm and Chevy also have some great deals going now:

-2004 Silverados are $9500 under MSRP (per an ad here int eh Columbus paper thru 9/27/04, which ties in perfectly with the 9/28/04 date on the 0% financing)
-I have a GM Mastercard (one of the deals where a % of each dollar I spend goes to my next vehicle) and they are offerign another $500 to buy before 9/30/04

I have a 2000 Silverado with 68K miles on it and owe $3200 and I am really thinking about checking into trading it the next week or so. Not sure if I will, but if I can get a new one it may be worth another $7-10k.

I only financed it for 3 years because my nephew turns 16 then and I hope to give it to him. I only said I could trade it in, not that I would. I will continue to buy Toyota though, very nice.

I've always bought American but my Blazer has been nothing but trouble after hitting 60.000 miles. Cars should last longer than 60,000 miles.

My last car was a hand-me-down from my brother. It was a little Mitsubishi truck. After it hit 150,000 miles, I sold it to the guy who does yardwork in my folks subdivision. That was in 97. I still see him driving around in it when I visit them. It must have well over 200,000 miles on it by now.

Maybe I can buy it back from him... :D

I don't want to derail (thanks Dod for the info) but I have to share this, my brother bought a Nissan Frontier, 2000 model. He is a courier in Austin, and uses it every day heavily. When he was in H-town he showed me that it had 410,000 miles on it. Original motor, transmission, etc...he was b****ing about having to change the oil every fourth day, and that his freaking water pump and starter had just gone out. 410,000 MILES!!! That was month ago, so he's probably pushing 450,000 miles today. absolutely amazing.

And their such good cars - that is the reason I buy BMW's.

They had a place here that for just under $200 you could get a lifetime oil change. They would have hated to see him coming.
