KOC: Rockets have had conversations with Memphis about trading down from #3

They do not.. I repeat DO NOT need Marcus Smart. They need dude's that can shoot. If they're now unsure about Reed at 3 for whatever reason, trade down and get Devin Carter. He's not an 18 yr old kid that's going to need time to develop. He'll contribute from day one. He could play behind both VV and JG. Is a dog on D and shoots at a nice clip on all 3 levels. He does a lot of what Smart would do but he's a much better shooter AND he'd be locked up on a rookie deal for 4 years. Not 19 million a year.

I will be upset if they trade for smart and 9 especially in this draft

 

Marcus Smart is a smaller, older version of Dillon Brooks with worse shooting.

TLDR: We already have a better Marcus Smart who we don't even want.

 

Echoing the same sentiments as others - would be disappointed if we used 3 to get Smart and 9.

GG Jackson, 9th pick and a future unprotected 1st round pick would be nice.

 

You realise if they do that trade for Smart and #9, they may very well be able to take Carter there? Get both guys....

 

That's still terrible trade value and helps your division opponent get better while bringing in another vet player that isn't a good shooter to take minutes away from the young players that need to develop. No thanks. Don't care if Ime and Marcus are drinking buddies or whatever is their big pull to get him.

 

I worry that Udoka likes Smart and pushes for the trade.

 

Smart is washed up. If we pull off this trade with Memphis, someone needs to be fired from the FO.

Especially when this draft is called to be one of the worst in NBA history.

 

Yes, I do realìze that. Still do not think they need to take on that contract. Also, there's no guarantee that Carter would still be there at 9. Ideally, they'd trade down with Portland for 7 and 14. Take Carter at 7 and either Ware or Edey at 14.

The dude I quoted said "don't trade for Smart, trade back and get Carter".

I'm not saying to do it, just pointing out your either/ or scenario could have been a both/ and.

I've wanted Reed all along, but if Portland would do that deal and they had a chance at Carter and a big, I'd rather them do that than take Clingan at 3.

 

Give me Miles Simon and #7 from Portland and Jalen for Miles Bridges. Draft Knecht or Carter at #7.

 

Really hope we don’t invest in Smart, but we’ve seen that Ime gets his way.
