Since a flat draft, where upsides are lower. The salary for a #3 pick, is around +$8m, in which case, lumbering non-switchy defensive bigs can be found easily. And would be with players with years of NBA experience.

I am glad that the sheer softness of so many Sengun supporters hasn't rubbed off on the man, himself.
    Sheesh.

And there are so many bigs available right now:

    Mitchell Robinson
    Walker Kessler
    Isiah Hartenstein
    Jarrett Allen
    etc…

I would rather Clingan threatening Sengun to add to his game (3pt/ defense) before offering him a contract, then thinking Adams will be gone and we are forced to pay him or we will have to start over at center again.........drive the competition for these spots......before offering max contracts and watch the player get lazy after getting paid and making it hard to trade his contract and were stuck with him......

Of course a look at future centers in the drafts to come could also help us to decide.............

Then draft Reed and put that same logic on Green right?

The ones you named are a bit of higher caliber. Yes these types are plentiful. On the mid-end: Drummond for example reportedly not staying with Chicago. And likely could be had for cheap. And I'm not saying the brute types: Reb/Blocking don't have a place in the NBA, just their market price is low. Plus we still have Adams, Landale and Jeff Green.

Like Kessler a lot. Posters always posting, player “A” is not a fit with Green, Sengun, or whoever. Let Udoka figure that out. Kessler was second in the league in blocked shots. Only playing 23 minutes a night. Rim protection right. If Ainge would take #3 for #8 & Kessler, do it. Maybe even a swap of 2nds, 44 for 32. Throw in Tate if need be.

    Use #8 for a shooter.

Robinson would be good too. Would require a lot less assets to acquire.

Do you wanna talk about softness after Sengun is traded or before? Why we dont hear about these kind of rumours about other players within so called core 6, coming from the likes of Kelly Iko?

I just don’t feel the need to rush and make a rash decision to trade a top 3 pick just to get a backup center. There’s plenty on the market, we can get one in the second round or even the next draft considering we already have two backup centers on the roster.

Utah has the 10th pick. SAS has the 4th and the 8th picks. I do like Kessler, but 3 point shooting is our biggest need.

Whoever they pick is going to be a back up. In fact, I don't see any real minutes for anybody they take in their rookie season. I don't think Clingan would get minutes over Adams and I don't think Sheppard would get minutes over Amen and Cam (who will both undoubtedly need to play some minutes at guard and forward just to get 15-20 minutes a night with our current roster).

not getting minutes right away isn’t the point tho…Clingan and Sengun will never be able to effectively play together, so how is he ever gonna have more than a bench role here?

If you want a guaranteed role player take Clingan. There’s basically 0 chance he becomes anything more than a good role player. That’s his ceiling.

But I thought this draft was “weak”. Now trade a proven 21 year old for a prospect this year?
