C Kedaur Trujillo has now pitched in 2 games this week for the FCL team. He has 2.1 ip with 4 k, 3 bb, and 0 er. I doubt they’re making him a 2 way player, but worth keeping an eye on.
Luis Baez (10) and John Garcia (8) have gone deep for Asheville. EDIT: Garcia just hit a three-run homer (9) to give him two straight two-homer games.
Anthony Huezo hit his 3rd homer in the FCL. Jose Fleury is also starting his rehab today and he picked up two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 1st inning.
He is at 5.8 walks per 9. Bryan Abreu was at 5.6 walks per 9 same age and level then came to the majors. Abreu was at 11.9 k per 9 while Ullola is at 12.5. All of those numbers for both were as starters more or less. Lot easier to navigate around a high walk rate as a one inning reliever which is what Ullola will be when called up.
I saw that Jaime Melendez was assigned to the FCL to get him off the Development list. His star has fallen way down. Coming out of 2021 he looked like a really really good prospect. But he’s been hurt and ineffective ever since. He is still only 22 but after 2 lost years his leash is probably getting pretty short. I also saw two more DSL arms were brought to Florida (Pedro Marquez and David Landeta). I don’t know anything about either of them but always good to see more DSL guys make it over.
Looks like they're both overage arms who didn't really stand out so I guess the org is trying to see if they can get anything out of either of them. Probably trying to get some bodies in the FCL bullpen since Trujillo, the catcher, is having to pitch.
The DSL teams played each other today and the Blue team came out on top 7-2. This game was called in the 8th due to rain. Marco Marcelino drove in three with a pair of doubles for the Blue team. He signed at the start of the 2022 IFA signing period and is in his third season in the DSL. Cristopher Presinal allowed an unearned run on four hits, walked one, and struck out six in three innings to get the win. Sandro Pereira went 3-4 with a double and scored a run for the Orange team. Pereira is now slashing .412/.556/.471 through his first 12 games (45 plate appearances) this season. An infielder from Venezuela listed at 5-7, 147, Pereira signed last January 15 and is in his second year in the DSL. He had a pretty solid pro debut last season, hitting .298/.457/.427 with a homer and 18 RBI in 45 games (166 PA) for the Orange team.
- Pedro Leon went 4-5 with a double and an RBI single, while Shay Whitcomb and Jesus Bastidas both homered for Sugar Land. Whitcomb and Bastidas both have 16 home runs on the season. - James Hicks finished with more walks than strikeouts (4 BB, 2 K) but turned in five innings of one-run ball for Asheville. Derek True allowed a hit and struck out three over four scoreless to complete a 2-1 Tourists win over Winston-Salem. Luis Encarnacion went 2-3 and his two-run double was enough for the win. - Kenni Gomez hit a two-run homer (5) in Fayetteville's 12-7 loss to Delmarva.
I know Bloss was just a spot start, and was going back down, but I really hope it’s nothing too serious that keeps him out a long time hampering his development. Has a shot of being in the rotation coming out of spring next year.
