If we do trade down, Im prioritizing Charlotte, Portland and Chicago. Target being Castle at 6 or 7 or Salaun at 11.
How do you figure? I don't see him as being quick enough laterally to stay in front of modern power forwards full-time.
If we trade down, my only priority is firing the GM and bringing in sometime competent. It really won't matter what else happens till David Kahn's younger brother is no longer running things.
Personally, I believe a trade down is unlikely. - As far as we know, no mid or late lottery prospects have worked out with Houston at all. We even know that a number of top guys have worked out with most other lottery teams but they specifically have not with us. Givony is well sourced on this. - Trade downs from top 5 picks are extremely rare. The only cases in the last ten years were unusual situations where the trade down team moved down 2 spots knowing with 100% certainty their guy would be there. Trading down in the first round to just grab any guy who falls from a large tier who you haven’t met with or worked out? Very strange process-wise. That’s typically how NFL teams draft, not NBA. - Memphis, a contender with luxury tax issues, spending multiple significant assets to solve their immediate C need with a rookie making $10M/yr who has durability concerns? Just seems like a crazy bet to make. Putting their contender eggs in the basket of a rookie? - Trading down is high risk low reward for a GM. Nobody is going to celebrate Stone for getting a future protected pick. But if #3 hits? Stone would get killed in the media. Last two GM’s who who traded down from top 5 picks were out of a job not long after. I could be wrong, but my read is that HOU is ultimately trying to maintain leverage by keeping trade options open. So SAS, ATL, CHA etc can’t assume anything about who is being picked #3, and if any other moves happen Houston has to be involved and paid a toll in small future pick equity. Trading down to late lottery just seems fantastical IMO. I’d sooner believe they trade completely out for a veteran or ~3 future picks.
I don’t like us helping Memphis and OKC get better. Two young teams we will be competing with for years. Stone needs to think about that.
Reports saying Tidjane Salaun suffered an injury in a pre-draft workout for the San Antonio Spurs. The French guard has since cancelled a workout with the Charlotte Hornets, and he is expected to cancel all future workouts, scheduled with Portland, Sacramento and OKC.
There is that Boston dude in Portland that was rumored at the trading deadline. Brogdon, something else and the 7th for the 3rd pick? I don't want to trade but I wouldn't hate it if it happened.
I have resigned to the likely scenario that the Rockets FO will trade down or trade out. So all these discussion about who we want for #3 is moot.
They’re are very stupid to do so. Then again, they still want Bridges so we shouldn’t be surprised in their stupidity. Also the Oladipo extension offer.
Injured after working out in San Antonio. Cancels all future workouts with other teams. Drafted by the Spurs.
exactly. He wants to play with his childhood friend Wemby in the worst way. But that just so happens to be the workout he hurts himself in? Not buying it. He’s got a promise from the Spurs at #8.
